Also keep in mind that for most companies, the prices of old games drop heavily so even when they do sell, it's not the same. Yakuza 0 was $60 at release, then it went down to $5 all the time and it's back up to $50 now with the Director's Cut(and will drop to $5 again eventually).

Nintendo tries to keep their games with evergreen pricing but in a market with so many cheaper alternatives, those are going to be hard to sell to customers as the market shifts more towards cheaper and f2p games.

It's exactly when the whole push to make everything the same as last generation with a new coat of paint has been nothing but detrimental to the industry. Now that everyone has followed the montra set by PlayStation where games are "cinematic experiences" or whatever they call them, the industry wants to be Hollywood. There are people who have openly stated they don't like or play video games who are making video games. Because they use video games not as a way to have fun or use the strength of video games to create a great experience for the person playing the game, but because they look at video games as a way to "tell a story" or to be the director and/or scriptwriter they failed to become in the industry they failed to break into.

We deserve this. We deserve this for allowing PlayStation and Xbox to infiltrate the industry. We deserve this for allowing SEGA to go, SNK to go, and even Nintendo during the Wii/Wii U/DS/3DS era go (it wasn't perfect, but at least it was interesting). he's kinda correct. remasters of games are notorious for butchering games with new textures, lighting etc. to the point its a straight downgrade despite the 'visual clarity' and 'QoL'. Remakes are made most of the time, to replace games which is its own problem.
and when people do emulate, its never in native res which fucks up alot of the effects designed specifically for that resolution.
Original versions of games are usually never experienced how they were intended to during development, films are almost usually always experienced as intended via a single exported video file/piece of film that will be played decades after.
