Should I play it via Duckstation on PC or on a jailbroken PS4?

Both offer a scanline filter to make the prerendered backgrounds look decent on modern displays. Duckstation will upscale the 3D models much nicer. Go with whichever is more comfortable/convenient to play on

On PS4 you'll get nice 3D models but pixelated backgrounds

There's only one version. Just play it.

When I played this every walkthrough told me to use a rifle and it was a fucking snore. For maximum fun just find an SMG and use a super tool to remove the random fire feature. Much faster attack times and you have to stay closer to enemies and actually dodge stuff.

Those guides are wrong. Pistols are the way to go. You just keep beefing those up. High attack rate and mobility.

As a kid I got soft locked on the final boss because i saw a shotgun and liked the animations and sounds so much so i threw everything onto the one you can get at the museum, and went into the UB fight with this horrible fucking mishmash gun that shot 6 times per round, and 2 stats the UB was strong against.

GODDAMIT SQUARE PLEASE REVIVE THIS SERIES, I CANT STAY WITH JUST 3rd BIRTHDAY FIASCO FOREVER

There's nothing to revive. Aya is literally deleted from time the plot is over. The only thing left would be a soulless remake that bloats PE's perfect brisk action rpg runtime into the triple digit hours and not actually add anything.

I tried to finish the second game a couple of times but always drop it. Is not as interesting as the first one.

I don't think they can do it. They aren't the IP holders.

Square Enix still owns the IP insofar as video games go. But japanese business logic and the times have gridlocked the franchise. PE1 only got made because Squaresoft was swimming in fuck tons of liquid capital in the 90's. So they could afford to be taking risks. PE1 did very well, and PE2 got the green light, but that game has a really brutal identity crisis and was so different from PE1 that despite decent reviews and ok sales, squaresoft internally wasn't happy with it. Then in an apparent attempts to decouple PE from the grip of Sena's lawyer 3rd birthday was made and despite selling really good for a psp game, the desired goal of "remove anything directly related to Sena's novel" also left the fanchise with nowhere to go, and yet another completely different gameplay style and system.

Since then the cost to make even a mid budget title is so fucking daunting that nobody in charge at square enix seems to want to take the risk of trying a 4th time. It's a shame, because as goofy as PE2 was it's ending left a lot of loose ends that would have been fun to follow up on.

Even though PE2 has a lot of obvious faults (namely it's pacing, lack of environmental/enemy variety, backtracking, resident evil style puzzles for the sake of it) when it finally does come into its own it's surprisingly enjoyable. It's just at odds with itself for the majority of its runtime.
