I didn't think this could be a thing but the main character was actually TOO rapey for me. Still a fun game and doing battle mechanics in the shops for a discount was a neat idea.

i rented it and enjoyed it, the manual came with a walkthrough for the first couple hours which i used

Please tell me you work for a publisher and were sent by a higher up to test the waters because someone above you wants to buy the IP.

Nah. I played first through and through, but dropped the second one. Dungeons aren't as sweet and to the point as the first one's.

I'm a sicko that actually likes Koudelka the best

I enjoyed Shadow Hearts and II/Covenant, couldn't stand From the New World though. What a garbage ass game.

the first game has about as many gags, its just shorter so the total gag amount is lower and most importantly was a ps1 game turned into a ps2 game midway through development so the gags are just lines of text instead of entire cutscenes

yuri is cool, both endings of the first game being canon is cool, judgement ring is cool, music is great. actual games are kind of whatever and the party members are all one note memes outside of whatever GF yuri currently has

Good. It's structure encapsulates the 32-bit era JRPG design ethos in a very good manner that's ephemeral and difficult to describe unless you've played a lot of those games. It does what it sets out to do competently and has a strong cast of characters, lore, story, and structure.

It's worth playing Koudelka (spiritual precursor) and it's direct sequel. Koudelka is kind of was but it's still worth experiencing at least once. Great sense of atmosphere.

As a sequel, Covenant had one of the most interesting reasons for simultaneously carrying on from the first game's bad ending while also justifying the first game's good ending that I've ever seen. Pure kino.

I did. Johnny was a shit protagonist. Lady was a nothingburger villain. The party members were pretty forgettable with boring gimmicks. The plot was nonsensical at points and it the humor was avast downgrade.

I've played Koudelka for the first time a year ago, my only gripe is that the grid battle system doesn't really go anywhere to the point it might as well not exist besides front and back row niggas and that the inteo and animations are too slow and they become tedious by the end of the game
Everything else is superb.

The last pre-rendered jrpg. It's really well done, and has all the gameplay, story, and presentation quality you want from one. It's as good as Legend of Dragoon I'd say, in other words top tier just below the classic pre-rendered games Squaresoft made.
The sequels are fairly different, so it still holds up against them despite them expanding on the gameplay features a lot.

Yeah but It was pretty fun playing Koudelka after finding out about it and recognizing some of the monsters that were reused in Shadow Hearts. Shame about those load times for fights and the absolute lack of variety in battle music, but otherwise a pretty solid game for it's time.

I played Koudelka first, but had no idea SH was a sequel until after I had already bought it (I just wanted another JRPG to play on PS2)
Truthfully I kinda hate the way Shadow Hearts treats Koudelka herself, yeah she does ultimately get a happy ending, but boy did she need to go through some horrible shit to get it.

They could never get a publisher for either title. So they basically just pissed away the KS money making pitch demos and the like.
Penny Blood got a proper spinoff from it (Hellbound), but ultimately both projects are dead.

My ps2 started giving me disc read errors so i never beat it. I dont think i made it too far into the game maybe halfway through. I think i was tired of the jrpg format by then and played more of DDR or resident evil 4.
