I fixed the heat issue with Soulmates mod. Did you know that when hooking into a function with Harmony, the postfix function receives arguments modified by the original function, and not the original values? I didn't. It subtracted a super large value from heat's decrement variable, so it would take hours to wear off.
Also, now soulmate's nick is colored green.

Any beginner's tips for the beginning of the caldera? I got surrounded by heated rocks, succumbed to fire damage and fell the lava.

watch for the lava cycle to go down, then jump down, tank heat damage, and run/climb to a safe spot. you'll want your stamina bar to be as full as you can reasonably get it
keep doing this over and over the entire stage
you'll eventually get an eye for what jumps are safe to make and when you can tank large amounts of burn to cover longer distances. for the most part, don't take stupid risk and you should be fine

The lava raises and lowers in a cycle, if you fall in it you take damage fast, you can wait for it to lower to cross at low points without taking much (if any) fire damage. Fire damage is different that straight health damage, it will go away fairly quickly, stay high and time climbs with the cycle of the lava. It's actually one of the easier stages once you're used to it, plan as far ahead as you can currently see, some pillars that stick out are plain dead ends.

The only thing to watch for is bursts of fire that pop up, you need to be ready for those any second.

I would also say, master jumping to chains with epic leaps, you can mash E to catch as the release key is jump (space) and and if you have a lot of speed/momentum you slide along the chain really fast which can help you cross larger gaps fast.

As a last resort you can wait for the lava to go down and literally run across the lava bedrock if you're fast and have lots of stamina.

If you're low on stamina and you're stuck on a rock burning, make sure to wedge yourself in a place that when you go unconscious you don't ragdoll off the side, good chance you'll recover.

There's no reasonable way to path find, the maps are randomly generated, there's no official routes or markers, it's just whatever works.

Don't be afraid to explore laterally, and even go back down a small way to get access to a different route. Use your gear when absolutely stuck, it's there to be used, too much messing about a hunger will get you. As you make successful plays with gear you'll often get suitcases to replace it. Go after suitcases deliberately if you're low on gear, even if they're a bit out of your way.

Play on easy setting first so there's no time pressure to climb, that makes longer plays and backtracking more forgiving. If you try and force a bad route and you slip and get hurt that's way more likely to game over you

Played 5 times today. Died 4 outta 5 times with people, tried one last time on my own and finally peaked on my own for the first time. Only peak difficulty but i'm fuckin stoked with myself.

That being said, it doesn't feel very random to me. Like overall it looks random enough, but I feel like there are very few "basis" configurations that give you a path to the peak and then it just generates stuff around that.
