What makes choices meaningful is the finality. No taking back. The passage of time. You have one life. Thats what makes every choice hard and heartbreaking. But if you friend die and you can just boot up a different timeline and he is alive there and everything is well, then you are robbed of the same emotional impact that the finality can provide.

Hideo Kojima talked about this many years ago when he was asked about how come MGS2 doesn't have different endings.

This is the only reason why I dont like VN's. They are written to provide a choice your story type of the exp. But if i can make up my own story, then I can do it in my own head, I dont have to waste 30 hours reading it.

Real storytellers create stories that have one ending. Like life.

i thought the pacing in the first half was amazing. the way the paranoia and feeling of dread keep rising up until mayushii's death. you only hear about the potential dangers of what they're involved with, and none of it seems real until the game finally kicks down the door. great experience. is SG0 worth reading? the first didn't feel like it would benefit from a sequel/prequel/whatever.

This is very pretentious and completely wrong. Some VNs use the meta threat of bad ends to generate tension to help keep the reader on edge during a pivotal scene. Others have sweeping messages and themes that can only be fully appreciated and understood if you go down every divergent path. Sometimes it's just plain interesting and fun to see alternate versions of how things play out. Steins;Gate in particular really emphasises how any particular decision can have wild consequences with the different endings and the phone system.

Been playing S;G0 with a friend. Currently on the true ending path on Route B after Moeka attacks Maho, Daru, and Okabe. This shit has me hooked as much as the original and even though its inconsistent, the militsry espionage stuff has me on the edge of my seat. Also yes we didn't finish the og, doing the perfect loop.
I think Moeka is the only redesign in 0 I like more than the original. She's a perfect mix of cute and dangerous.

As a person who cares a lot about character writing I enjoyed 0 for what it is, I do agree that the story is shit and for that reason I still prefer main SG overall, but in terms of portraying characters 0 did great.
