Plot in vidya
Is it just me, or has gaming culture turned into tryhard sophistication wannabes?
Most games have had some narrative, even if on a microscopic level, kinda like context in a porno. Like, yeah, that's great and all, but get to the good stuff.
Now it seems like most "gamers" want a prequel to the porno to watch the bitch order the pizza and watch her watching tv waiting for the guy to show up, oh, but with ubi towers, and QTEs. What the fuck happened? I like to hope I'm not the only one to notice and not simply became complacent.

Okay then. If gaming has no good stories, let’s all make one then. I’ll start. Plus, I need some material for a wee story.

Sony, with PS2's massive success and Squaresoft's winning streak in the previous years, brainwashed masses into thinking a deep game or games at all are driven in any relevant form by a restrictive story script or plot over it interactive features as a game in order to sell it as a step up for gaming despite being the entire opposite of it despite Sega actually doing it the right way.

So yeah; inmature manchildren needing external validation for not being able to deal entertaining themselves with electronic toys meant for children

I didn't suggest games can't or shouldn't have a decent story now and then, or that no games DO
I just don't understand the "need" to make every game's plot feel just as important as gameplay, if not moreso
Also,

Good story immerses you, who doesn't want to be immersed in their game
Anonymous No.723680673 [Report]
Just play indie games, or AA titles. There are loads of them.

Big budget games have only ever followed trends and marketable ideas, and those are mostly driven by vague notions based on nothing anyway.
When do you get stuff like Elden Ring which is big budget stuff but contains almost no active storylines to halt your progress, people here just call it "rollslop" and try to associate it with mainstream garbage anyway. You aren't going to get sane perspectives here.

Yes, the crushing majority of storydriven games prove this leaving extremely small isolated cases as the few games that execute properly a story into a game.

"these games have bad story so you can't get immersed by story" is not an argument
If anything you're arguing for me here by saying that more games should put in the effort to have a good, proper story

>implying immersion can't also be derived from enjoying a coherent world and story set up by a competent dev

a good story serves the same purpose as visual and audio design: it makes the gameplay feel better. a good animation and sound effect makes a punch feel meaty and have impact. a good story provides context and emotional investment for your punching and kicking and gives an additional "drive" to see what happens next that would not otherwise exist if the story didn't exist. it's an optional layer that makes the whole package better if done right.
>>723679019
>I just don't understand the "need" to make every game's plot feel just as important as gameplay, if not moreso
because story heavy games have been proven to either sell very well (the last of us) or have long lasting legacy/discussion in gaming circles (new vegas, planescape, vampire the masquerade) compared to pure gameplay experiences

John leaped over the counter and saved the Indian cashier! But only after he had successfully subdued Konata did John then reveal his ulterior motive to the man: either he was to give him one of everything on the menu at no charge at all, or Konata would have her way with Ranjesh's brown booty.

>Ranjesh, distraught, reluctantly agreed. Either it was lose his job and get deported back to the fecal-ridden streets, or lose his anal virginity to a bulbous bastard's bodypillow. If he had a pistol, surely he would shoot himself right now. John had succeeded in his plan within securing the food, but one thing remained. Despite his weight, he walked here purely on determination for his meal. Now he had got it, but how would he get it home? Sure, the indian guy was terrified out of his mind, not at the sentient pillow, but having the possibility to go back to his dreaded homeworld. John could sic Konata oncemore, or alternatively gamble on the chances that he could get a hostage situation going and have the bystanders do his work for him. Either way, they could gang up on him. What to choose, what to choose...

John, now having secured his meal, and not wanting to waste any more time in the real world; grabbed the Konata body pillow by the hand and made the arduous walk out of the McDonalds and to the parking lot. It was a grueling task, comparable to the death marches in Vietnam back in the '40s; but it had to be done. For if he wanted to eat his delicious buffet (that would surely make even someone on My 600lb Life blush), he had to make it back to his apartment on the other side of town. But John is not stupid! He knew that if he were to walk all the way back, not only would his food grow cold; but he could potentially die from a heart attack. So with a heavy heart and even heavier strides, John navigated to the nearby train station, bought a ticket, and boarded the train. Only problem was, there was no place for him to sit his fat ass down! And to make matters even worse, Konata was still visibly irritated about her fucked up order and not getting to buttrape Ranjesh's chocolate starfish!

Xenogears (dogshit in actual execution, but narratively ambitious) came out in 1998
Planet Escape: Tournament came out in 1999
Silent Hill 2 came out in 2001

There are good games. Its only that normies want to play the latest SLOPPA like peak or repo, which arent bad games, well at least peak isn't, but they are just simple.

There's lots of good games. Pic related is one of them.

With no other alternative in mind, he shrugs his shoulders before siccing a kinky Konata on a nearby African-American man, leading for the spot to be freed, albeit the entire box-car was now in a commotion due to the current molestation going on at the very backside. The train rumbled it's way down the hail-ridden streets, but one of the bystanders, a white woman in particular, begged John to help. Unfortunately for this kind-hearted woman, she'd also interrupted our greasy hero in the middle of his salty buffet. Offended, John, (once again) had a choice at hand.

My fucking sides, holy shit.

John was furious! How dare his precious buffet be interrupted by a WOMAN, an abhorrent species that John learned in grade school spreads one of the most dangerous diseases known to mankind: cooties, and also didn't like his favorite Chinese girl cartoons. With an angry huff, he stood up from his seat (making the box-car shake even more than it already was), walked past the woman, and went over to Konata; who was in the midst of buck-breaking and turning that poor negro into her slave.

Good gameplay alone can make a game good. Good story alone can make a game good. Good gameplay and good story together create something greater than the sum of their parts. You need both to make a /legendary/ game.

With a faint voice filled with satisfaction, he called upon Konata, siccing her at the woman, replacing her with his Millimetre Peter in the activity of reviving the activities of the slave-master in the art of buck-breaking. The boxcar turned into nothing more than chaos on a derelict railway downtown, with people screeching, banging at the door to be let out and to be set free from the rape-hoot-an-nanny at hand.

Just to pause the chain for a sec, if you're actually practicing writing this section right here sounds quite clunky. And I can't really name how to improve it either, since I honestly don't even know what you were trying to convey.

A sinister turn of events. :O

With the negro man thoroughly shattered by John and Konata, the two could finally sit down and enjoy the ride. But alas, tragedy struck! While John was busy proving his race's superiority, his McDonalds buffet had been finished off by a fat Mexican kid! And to make matters even worse, the boy was utilizing the train's emergency phone system to order a pizza! (Which John no doubt knew he would not get a single slice of.)

With impotent rage, John launched himself upon the kid, sending four-hundred pounds of pure American meat onto the child, beating him to death in a revenge-driven stupor. Once the deed was done, John ravenously scarfed down the remains of his Happy Meal scattered upon the dirt-covered surface of the boxcar, ignoring what he’d just done alongside the wails of the kid’s mother and the white woman that Konata was currently pegging to death.

Was all they heard for what seemed like miles around. Turns out the scent of a white woman to Indian men was like wildfire to a pack of ravenous moths, coupled with the blistering snowfall that pelted the unlikely duo akin to machine gun bullets. They were surrounded, albeit some had redirected their urges towards the carcass of said blonde that laid, stretched out by Konata just seconds beforehand.
