If you listen to game journos it's whatever the current year their article was made in. I was going to try and pitch a year but I can't beat KH2 AND Splinter Cell. Fuck.

But zero good jrpgs that year. All the games you listed would be so boring to me unless you like those genres besides maybe mario galaxy. Pretty sure that was the year of disgusting greys and brown colour palettes in games too.

Kingpin: Life of Crime. Do NOT buy the atrocious remaster. The game is already jank as all hell, it doesn't need Slipgate shitting all over the excellent presentation.

that era was pretty good but i would not call it S-teir, maybe A-tier.
also lets not forget that the early 7th gen psn/xbox live era birthed all the slop that we have today.

>hardware and game dev had matured and become more sophistanced
>budgets and scope had increased for bigger ideas, but not yet to greedy AAA slop levels
>game design was not yet "solved", so lots of experimentation and different concepts, instead of just copying the same blueprints everywhere

The absolute peak of the medium, sensational.

While there were suits involved in this period, a lot of them were still cautious after getting burned in the first crash, so the people who actually wanted to make a game and not just a bump a company stock ticker were mostly in control.

For me it was when a lot of games started going downhill in the genres I like, namely AFPS and RTS. If anything I think 2011-2016 was the absolute worst period for games. MOBAs dominated, you had the SJW feminist screeching and gamergate, kikestarter scams with MN9 and Shart Citizen.

>RE1
>Crash Bandicoot
>Clock Tower
>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
>Persona
>Megaman X3
>FF7
>Gran Turismo
>Final Fantasy Tactics
>Armored Core
>Dynasty Warriors

We're still eating off these individual games, the series they started or their derivatives and that was just one system. 98 is a good year too. some of them might have had earlier iterations in japan at some point but the point is that these releases is what made them famous to milk or copy
