Fabien solved the case decades ago, so Lou uses Dominate to make him forget about it. Repeated Dominate is why his memory is so fucked. Campbell started doing it again in modern times, causing a "closed case", as Lou Dominated it into him, to re-open.

The story is decent (cute tremere girl having an oneitis for malkavian fat fuck causes seattle to burn) and the game doesn't even feel woke, it's just phyre self-inserts having a meltdown realizing they are Gideon's sloppy seconds. Your girl will never forget her first love it's as simple as that.

On a more serious note, I won't buy the game at this price, because it feels severely rushed and devoid of content. IF they dedicate themselves to adding stuff I will buy it but I don't think it will happen because they have already chosen to do useless story DLCs that add no much needed substance to the base game.
