venesuelan currency has been cheaper than runescape gold for going on 10 years now, everybody knows this. i do feel like i'm in some sort of time loop where everybody is crazy and just doesnt care that the power imbalance between two countries is so great, and the conditions in one is so fucking bad that they can play video games for a living and make more than a doctor in their country and people will say,

you have to be utterly insane to argue that it is worth more to have this literally non existent currency maintain its pretend value where you can buy a fake digital sword that gives you nothing of value but personal novelty,
versus
letting people buy and sell items for wages and like, pay rent and buy food and stuff in a country that has historically been completely fucked over by every 1st world power in existance.

dont get me wrong, i like video games and i understand video game economies hurt when gold farmers show up, but does that really matter? and even beyond that, imagine if you were using photoshop to make a product like art and trying to sell it to someone over seas for real money and adobe said, "no that's against terms of service, that would devalue his personal art journey"

Sometimes i look back on it an realize what a genius i was for seeing the opportunity to make money and exploited every moment of it using my programming skills to automate all the trading stuff, and i TECHNICALLY didnt break any rules

There is a documentary about this too but I forgot the name. I had a friend who would give his MMO account to a Venezuelan to have him farm too. That was too much trust put in him

On Classic Era WoW, 90% of mages were Gnome gold farmers played by Indonesians. They'd even sneak into raid teams and do awful damage to get gear to farm better.

Different in every MMO. I wrote AH bots for WoW when most people did not even know about addons and were keyboard turning. It helped at I was into coding even back then. My my most favorite by far method was instantly buying out items that people wanted to float between factions using the neutral AH in WoW, got so many hate mail for that.

I did not give a shit about GMs and reports, if an account got banned, I just got on a new one, I bought accounts and install codes in bulk. Also, most of the time, you were not perma'd the first time, so I just sent the gold away from it, sold the account and the high level character to some random and it would likely instantly recoup the price of a new account.
