All the other kids I knew at the time were turning on Nintendo for being "baby shit" while bragging about how violent and adult the Playstation games they had were. So yeah, I think this was very much on the mark for the audience at the time.

We got ours in June 2002 it came packaged with the Spiderman game, I vaguely remember the edgy ads as I was 12 years old at the time. Generic le edgy ads didn't shift consoles, games did.

I didn't get my PS2 until a few years in, came with Offroad Fury 2. I tried to play it online. I still had dialup though, and it did support it, but it barely worked. Raced 2 dudes and I was done with that shit. But that moment of bringing the box home, the first thing I bought for myself really, cracking it open, I was so fucking excited. A moment burned into my mind. My very own PS2. Insane.

Kojima is a true artist which means he is both a genius and a retard at exactly the same time. Say whatever you want about MGS2, but the game has stuck with me all these years later and I remember almost everything about it.
