The only part I thought was terrible was the room before the final boss. Gameplay wise it's better than the first game, but I greatly prefer the first game's visual style and it runs at 60 FPS when emulated since the frame limit isn't capped at 30 like OD.
I liked the anime adaptation more, surprisingly.

Gameplay wise it is just a tiny bit better than the first but it's completely lacking in literally every other department coming from the first game be it presentation, style, music, pacing, or level design. It just falls flat compared to the first game overall to the point those slight improvements to the gameplay aren't able to save it.
