It's a delicate balancing act. In Mordheim, injuries can completely ruin a character, but come relatively infrequently, if you're playing cautiously and intelligently, but individual units also have a heavy resource and time investment. Darkest Dungeon has the opposite extreme, where injuries are given out even if you play perfectly and never take damage, but the injuries are usually relatively minor, and your dudes are also mostly disposable.

I feel like Mordheim did it better, because the consequences carry more weight.

Depends on the game and how important combat is.

If combat is actually meaningful and each encounter is unique and matters to progression and story telling(specially if open ended game), then I'd say it's based.

But if its a game that just has countless of mobs/respawning enemies/random encounters or if its a grindfest and the combat is just busywork between story cutscenes then I'd say it's cringe.

The robots in E3 are clearly inspired by Necrons, but are also very different. There could easily be some all female faction with clear inspiration from SoB without any implied connection to the Psycho Warriors, but some other human group. Hell, IIRC, Psycho Warriors aren't even implied to have the same place or reverence in human society as Space Marines do so the "not-SoB" could be related to whatever human government currently runs the galaxy now that space king is missing.

40k basically just straight up copied Dune and had it so mankind at their technological peak in fact, created AI and it was extremely powerful. It came to to conclusion however that it was mankind's successor and turned on it then everything got fucked.

Also its implied that the emperor forma de pre emperor wasn't to blame/responsible for this, they specifically wrote that a sub-race of humanity genetically modified to be better suited for warp travel, called the "Men of Stone" decided to create and hand over all their military power to AI.

I can think of no other reason to include this lore bit about a "half-dead" race of spacenoids almost ending humanity than to explain HOW the emperor in all his god-like power would have let robots take over.

I rewatched Astartes a couple weeks ago and decided to start reading some of the 40k books even though 40k is slowly being torn apart by its owners according to everyone. I've read the first book of the Eisenhorn trilogy, and the 2 Deathwatch Talon Squad books and it's been okay so far.

Introducing minor named warp entities that aren't directly aligned with one of the big 4 is a good idea that opens up so many more Your Guys opportunities for chaos and combatable enemies. The problem is making him explicitly a big name minor god that's practically a one-off sets a poor standard that he's essentially going to be the only one.

That's about what it did, it was a two part process.
First it introduced DnD to millions of faggots on the internet with an easily digestible youtube series.
Second Mercer played the babiest games of DnD known to man where nothing was really allowed to go too wrong so that the quirky cast of professional voice actors could focus on being silly.
Now you've got millions of faggots entering the space trying to make every game like their favorite parasocial youtube show and these millions of faggots are buying stuff in droves because they're new.
So today, a decade later, the entire tabletop gaming sphere is infested with these faggots and most modern official resources are unusably shit and gay for non newfags.
