Fallout Tactics and then quit the series because you've experienced all that is good.

If you can handle CRPGs then Fallout 1. Otherwise it doesn't matter, toss a three sided coin

fallout 3, so you can properly enjoy new vegas, and then fallout 4 so you can properly enjoy new vegas after. Then you play fo1 or 2 a little bit until you quit because your brain can't handle it.

No cap? 3
Great introduction to the franchise for low IQ ADHD subhuman animals that we all are. It wears a skinsuit of Fallout aesthetics and has that condensed Hollywood reboot amusement park presentation to get you into the world.

Then if you're still interested in the world you play 1 and 2 and only then New Vegas which is like Fallout 2 2 and moves the world building forward. Then you skip 4 and never touch this fucking franchise ever again.

by the way, fallout 3 should be played vanilla, not tale of two cringelands. Press the box next to Anonymous if you agree..

This is the most direct storyline you'll get basically. It's quite beautiful to see how all 3 games connect. I also still really like 3 and tactics as fun spinoffs.

This is a pretty difficult question to answer honestly. I would start first by asking what you're looking for.

>classic point and click RPG with concise pacing and storyline
Fallout 1
>huge classic RPG with tons of content and options
Fallout 2
>The Bethesda open-world exploration game they are known for making, but in a post-apoc setting
Fallout 3
>huge modern RPG with tons of content and replayability
Fallout New Vegas
>new Bethesda looter shooter and base building game
Fallout 4

It's worth noting 3 and 4 follow Bethesda's east coast storyline/setting; while 1, 2, and NV follow the original southwestern US setting/storyline. Doesn't mean you have to play them in order though.

My biased opinion: New Vegas is the best value. It's the one I return to again and again and it's great every time. Really I just like its setting, characters, and weapons/armor the most.

Anytime I do any sort of Fallout RP, I always like to play characters that were part of the Union of Atomic Workers, a literal who throwaway faction mentioned in Fo1 purely to flesh out the setting so that it isn't just the BoS making energy weapons. I just think their name is cool.

New vegas is by far the best. 3 is fun too.
