You mean area maps, not overworld map? Why did that version not have automaps for areas?
Anonymous No.723770076 [Report] >>723770176
>>723769832
Yes, area maps. And they were mostly for keeping track of the locations of quest givers and things like that. It was an early PS2 game (also on PC) so quality of life features weren't really a thing at the time.
Anonymous No.723770176 [Report]
>>723770076
I asked because you do have automapping on PC. It's definitely far from perfect but lacking in QoL is not something that comes to mind when I think of the version I've beaten several times.

This. I don't know why I still keep 'em after sharing them. It has that feeling of intangible progress and growth (especially the live service games) and surprised to have ≈7+ GB, or 3,750+ png screencaps from as old as 2021 March.

I have a small folder of a couple dozen screenshots of various puzzles from a touhou VN with notes about finding the solutions to them because they were difficult enough that I needed to stop and work them out
I used to own a hand drawn map of Legend of Grimrock because it has a version where the dungeon map isn't given to you and you need to map it out yourself on grid paper. That shit was really fun

one time I did acid and later that day on the comedown, I was playing factorio and oxygen not included
I had a huge brain blast while looking at my base and spent like half an hour or something with a notebook trying to sketch out how I wanted the base to be organized, so that I could make it that way when I was more sober
the next day, I looked at my notes and it made no fucking sense
it was just like, random boxes with arrows drawn to them and it said shit like "STORAGE" and "POWER" and "TRASH" but they were written multiple times, and like 1/3 of the diagram was erased and drawn over multiple times so you could barely read it anyway
once again the keys to the universe have eluded me

Instruction manual paper generally isn't good for writing. Ink doesn't mesh with the paper, so it either doesn't write or it winds up getting smudged. Pencils aren't going to write shit. The real reason those note pages are there is because pages come printed on large sheets, and the manual pages aren't usually going to perfectly hit the sheet's total page count.

The last note I wrote down was about a big mysterious door in the starting area of Silksong. Shortly after that I got the tools to mark interesting locations on the map.
Before that, I took extensive notes on Type Help, The Roottrees Are Dead and Outer Wilds. Last one not so much, since the game keeps track of most important info, but it still kinda helped and I was in the mindset after those two previous games.

>Do you take notes when playing video games?
Extremely rare.
>What did you last write or draw?
I use txt documents usually but sometimes I'll use a black and white notebook. Last thing I wrote down was the specific things I needed to knock out for Persona 5 Platinum. Mainly keeping track of the Mementos quests so I didn't miss any (missed requests twice during my first 2 playthroughs, which also caused me to miss like 4 other trophies).

If I'm writing or typing anything to it is 99.99% to keep track of trophy related shit. Sometimes I'll write down shit for certain builds in certain games but that's extremely rare. It's mostly trophy hunting shit for challenges, as I hate constantly having to pull up the PS Menu to look at what I need to do.

I usually make a list of heart pieces in Zelda because there's like up to 50 of them in Majora's Mask. I made maps for Riven the last time I played it.

I definitely make lots of notes if I'm playing something poorly documented like The Tower: Bonus Edition or Glider PRO, which I'm making stuff for my website about.

Not being able to figure out what to do in La Mulana is the general experience. The game is an obtuse piece of shit.
I cannot recommend it unless you're a certain type of autistic. LM2 is better than LM1 purely because it does not have nearly as many instances of batshit insane moon logic or pointlessly complex backtracking. Some people will tell you LM1 is a better game. They're all lying sacks of shit. Don't listen to them.
Anonymous No.723775668 [Report]
I have a notepad just for that. If a game doesn't have a quest log, then I need to write down NPC interactions and quotes. I still fucked up half of the quests, if not more, in Elden Ring. I also reference guides online for missables or certain items and make notes for missables and certain weapons and gear I would want, but try not to do too much spoiling. Also, lists of crafting items I need and in some cases, calculations and working out puzzles like the math codes in Stellar Blade.

Last list I had was a recommended order of progression through Demon's Souls.

but since steam the notes feature where u can open the overlay and write notes that are per game on it I often write down shit I want to come back to later or things I should remember for later.

<= whoever thought that you don't need a journal in an RPG and only NPC's reminding you about main quest was an idiot.
Ended up keeping a quest log just to remember every side quest and recruitable character.

Otherwise I always end up printing out fusion charts for SMT games on larger format to be able to see what I am doing.

there was a demo for a weird game that had you crafting bombs to fuck up the fictional government and they don't just give you a button that says "make bomb". you have to put the ingredients in the alchemy circle, then draw a correct elemental sigil.
The moment that I realized that if I didn't write down the recipes, I feel like something in my mind opened and wished other games did this more frequently.

The game in question:
