Save The Homeland.
What A Wonderful Life could have been number 1 if it didn't lag so much and if they had made the in game graphics look like the concept art like they did in Save The Homeland.
The remakes ruin the art style and, more importantly, the designs of the bachelorettes which is why I refuse to play them.

the farming in that game sucks
they really shot themself in the foot trying to sell it as a farming sim. Also by reworking the combat system at the last minute because of the farming.

The Gamecube ran better, but it was the vanilla version. The PS2 version was the special edition with added features like being able to marry the rich girl, but it lagged any time you turned the camera toward anything with more than 2 polygons

Because it's a thread about actual vidya and vidya discussion without any kind of flamewar bait. That doesn't fit /v/ standards
For example, if OP wanted Harvest Moon discussion to happen in some extent(you can want a proper discussion but that's not an option on /v/), he should make one of the following
>"Why is Stardew Valley so much better than any Harvest Slop? None of the games fucking reach indie game's standards kek"

>"Is this series good or pozzed?"

>(Waifucoomerism)

>(The pic of mayor throwing you out from the village in 1st Harvest Moon) "Vidya devs have always hated incels, deal with it chud"

>(Same as above)
>Game punishes you for not being a coomer
>"Other games like this?"

>(Any kind of Twitter post relating to Harvest Moon from literal who and preferably some kind of idpol/flamewar-bait comment)

So I'll recommend that kind of threads if you want others to talk about Harvest Moon with you.
Is it fucking horrible and shit way to discuss anything? Yes, of course. But you don't have much choice on /v/. Nobody cares about vidya discussion. And this isn't the usual "Hahaha /v/ likes no gaems xD" kind of thing, but majority, like 60-70% of this board treats /v/ as their Twitter/Facebook/Reddit or any other social media platform. And as they are anonymous and barely any off-topic discussion gets you a ban they just spend more time on that.
Anons don't come here to discuss games specifically. That's the problem.

Anyway I like Tree of Tranquility the most because teenage years and first "proper" experience with romance in vidya. I got the game for like 20€ at GameStop.
Fun memories.

I remember Another Wonderful Life having a cheat code for I think every item and infinite money if you plugged in a controller into the third port and hit Z for one of them and Start for the other
I stumbled across by accident by picking up the wrong controller while mashing buttons, wondering why the game wasn't responding until I noticed the problem

Harvest Moon 64, entirely due to the setting and characters as well as it's visual design, Harvest Moon kind of stopped advancing after Friends of Mineral Town/A Wonderful Life.
Also for some reason Harvest Moon 64 is the only sequel to the first Harvest Moon.
Anonymous No.723785664 [Report]

Back To Nature is mostly just more feature complete but Harvest Moon 64 struck out with more new features and ideas for Harvest Moon.
Harvest Moon 64 was also difficult, something the series has been lacking for way too long.

I liked DS a lot, but it's quite a grind. If you haven't played 64 or BTN you should play at least one of them. AWL if you want an extremely casual experience. Wouldn't recommend Save the Homeland unless you liked all the others you end up trying, feels even more incomplete than AWL.

Back to Nature and Friends of Mineral Town are the only serious contenders, funnily enough they all have the same cast.
All the other entries feel incomplete or have bad pacing.

Tree of Tranquility/Animal Parade, no contest. Even putting aside all of their other merits, the experience of wanting to marry the Harvest Goddess in ToT, not being able to, and then having the option open up in AP was, as the kids say, peak.
As for nu-SoS, easily Trio of Towns.

I don't want to use the word eerie, but maybe bleak is the better term for it, it's the washed out palette and near absence of non-diagetic music and general loneliness feeling that just got obliterated by that awful art style change

Stardew Valley is a soulless flat copy but if you've already played it and got some enjoyment out of it, the actual gameplay of harvest moon will probably be tedious for you

harvest moon just looks and feels better, the quality of life improvements in the female version of the gamecube game are pretty large
