Its entirely fine. Combat is cool for a little while then boring. Builds were pointless. The lore might have been cool but buried beneath too much. The actual story of the game was kinda uninteresting too. Really don't know peoples standards when they shill these kinda games.

Was half way through the Alan Wake dlc and it hit me that I was an hour or two away from dropping the game, so I left it and rushed as quickly as possible to the main story ending.
Anonymous No.723789031 [Report]
It's a little annoying because the gameplay is very close to being good and fun, but it falls flat.
Actually fighting the enemies is really boring, and not at all fun and interesting as it could be with the abilities we were given. If the combat was made by actually talented people it would have been amazing.
The world building and story is really good for a video game though, I will give it that. But I could never finish it because actually playing it was so boring.

Yep, one of the worst games I've ever played. It's essentially a tech demo. It was even bundled with GPUs at the time. Crap story. Too sci-fi from the start too, doesn't drag you into it. They clearly just put a bunch of things together to showcase their engine. The only positive thing about the game is that it gave me an early warning to stay away from Remedy and their other shit games like Alan Woke 2 and the upcoming Max Payne reboot failure.

It takes a lot of talent to create a mythical shape shifting god weapon and have it transform into handgun, shotgun and smg. Very exciting stuff. Happy the developers are not going through a financial crisis right now because of poor decisions and their obsession of making TV over good gameplay.

It's insane how much of the discussion about this game has been people obsessing over the story/lore when the plot is razor-thin and the lore/worldbuilding is just shallow set-dressing. The game plays like shit, though. 5-6 hour linear game that they decided to stretch out to 15 hours with filler and a pointless empty free-roam world and MMO-tier side quests.
Anonymous No.723793672 [Report]
This game would be 10 times better if they removed respawning enemies , scaled back the combat in general and focused more on platforming and engaging puzzles.

The combat is flashy , but gets old really fast. It's just so annoying backtracking through a previous area and fighting the same enemies over and over again every god damn time. It just feels tedious.

But the combat was really bad, and I regulary replay the original Alan Wake and enjoy the fighting there... And don't get met started on the supid upgrade system via random loot drops in a fucking singleplayer game. They could have made something really cool with the premise, but most of it is just lost opportunity and falls flat. Real shame.

I guess I should say the truly dogshit part is Alan's in-universe writing and somewhat the character of Alan himself. The rest so far just seems mediocre, most everything is a hollow reference to Stephen King or Twin Peaks. They're trying to pull an unreliable narrator but then they drain half the mystery out of that at the end of the first chapter, when Alan appears on a tv and rants about exactly why he needs everything happen this way. It's only Episode 1 so we'll se how it goes.

The game has two fatal flaws as far as I'm concerned.

1. The game doesn't give you a map and the world is built in a way that's very annoying to navigate without it. If the game simply had one of those little diorama maps like in Metroid Prime it would instantly be noticeably more enjoyable and feel like a chore less often
>but dude you can just follow the signs
Yes, I realize you can follow the signs but that's an annoying way to do it
2. Your weapons are all kind of shitty and it feels like you have to use the telekinesis ability to do any appreciable amount of damage, so the combat ends up feeling very samey throughout since you're just using this one very simplistic ability through most of the game.

There's other problems besides those two, honestly the game would be better off if they just stripped 90% of the RPG shit and 90% of the sidequests. Returnal is a game plays a lot like Control without the annoying shit and it's a much more enjoyable experience
Anonymous No.723800386 [Report] >>723800670

the roguelite shit IS Returnal, it's a game about getting high scores like Resogun and Super Stardust. the story shit was just included because the average midwit wouldn't want to buy a game based around playing the game, this is a direct quote from the devs

>Some players and developers sought a more narrow definition for "roguelike" as variations on Rogue introduced new concepts or eschewed other principles that they felt moved the games away from the flavor of what Rogue was.[13] At the International Roguelike Development Conference 2008 held in Berlin, Germany, players and developers established a definition for roguelikes known as the "Berlin Interpretation".[16][17][18] The Berlin Interpretation set out a set of high-value and low-value factors, basing these lists on five canon roguelike games: ADOM, Angband, Linley's Dungeon Crawl, NetHack, and Rogue. The Interpretation was designed to determine "how roguelike a game is", noting that missing a factor does not eliminate a game from being a roguelike, nor does possessing the features make a game roguelike.[16][18]

No. It's the most PR-friendly version of the foundation that I've ever seen, to the point that it makes you wonder what was even the point.
The storyline especially deserves a mention:
I don't know who in the writing team got the idea that the MC should be able to stand along eldritch gods, but it's painfully stupid when you're trying to have themes of cosmic horror.
To be clear, I don't mind the director of the FBI making deals with Cthulhu, hell, that should be expected in that kind of setting, but if the foundation can just strongarm gods into doing what they want then what's the point of playing as them?
They should be making pointlessly evil sacrifices in exchange for lesser magical services, not get good deals that help humanity. You can even have the MC partially fix what they did in the past, but you can't "fix" the balance of power when things being outside of humanity's control is half the point of the genre
