FF8 is my favorite. The junction system is great but the draw system is not. They really should have found a way integrate magic better. Like maybe each GF has set spells and every so many GF levels the assortment wides/grows and you just junction that. That way you don't get obscenely OP instantly and you're not draw spamming for hours. In addition, if you grind you'll inherently get stronger with better spells for THOSE weirdos.

Draw spam basically makes me not wanna play my fav FF on revisits.

I still like 7 more, but 8 is really good. I think the NORG stuff is retarded but the rest of the game is excellent. The creepy shit like the broadcast hijack when you're in Timber shows that FF 6-7-8 had those mysterious and horror-adjacent moments that the series never recaptured later

The only reason it is filtering is because of needing all the magic junction abilities from the GFs. They also should have made a late game item that gives All Stats-J so you could free all those slots.

I agree, I like your idea. I think they try a bit too hard to have a strong gimmick for each game when I think most fans would love it if they just refined the Materia or Sphere Grid systems a bit

The Cards Mini-game filtered me and I stopped playing the game, holding a grudge for Final Fantasy that still goes nowdays. I was like 12 tho

8 is the only FF I've never played because the combat seems retarded and I'm comfortable assuming they wouldn't have made 9 like they did if anyone actually enjoyed taping cards and potions together or however this game does it

A shame they couldn't notice the option "Auto" in that menu, so even then the game would do their thinking for them. Such miniscule effort required from a player and EVEN THEN... players still got filtered.

The Junction system offered a surprising amount of freedom for character building, especially for a JRPG.
The problem with the junction system is it's way too easy to break, and impossible to build decently challenging combat content around.

I finished the game without understanding what junction is. I was in junior high. I only realized people hate the game when I got back to gaming during college.

Have never played this, I just remember a magazine saying this is the best game ever made
