The race to the bottom is simply the natural state of any environment where anyone can create and publish a product for profit without any actual expertise. I'm not going to pretend like early indie games like 'Splosion Man or Geometry Wars were "inspired masterpieces", but I think there was more thought and creativity put into their production than
>Vampire Survivors clone #7,311
>gambling simulator disguised as a game (distinct from Vampire Survivors clones)
>roguelite deckbuilder #10,810
>we ripped off a successful game because we don't have any actual ideas #15,094
This new wave of indies just feels so fucking transparently profit-oriented and cynical that I can't bring myself to care about them at all. It's been like this for years, but it's only going to accelerate more and more with the rise of AI. Buckle up.
I don't even really consider games like these and Silksong to even be in the same category, they're just completely different entities.
