It's actually a very interesting sci-fi take on animatronics I wish the series did more with.
In 2001: A Space Odyssey the reason why HAL kills the astronauts is because it's ordered to keep the real purpose of the mission a secret, and order to not harm humans, and ends up depriving them of oxygen in their sleep so they die peacefully under the reasoning that doesn't count as harm and they can't find out about the mission if they're dead. It's the conflicting orders that drive the machine to madness.
Likewise, this is basically what happens with the Security Breach animatronics. Chica is programmed to love food in order to advertise the mall's food better, but she's a robot and can't actually eat or ever be full so she has an eating disorder basically. Roxy is programmed to believe she's the best as an act for the kids she plays games with, but also programmed to always lose to the kids so that conflict gives her a personality disorder. Monty is programmed to be a rockstar but also programmed to not be the main star, which gives him angry issues and is why he killed Bonnie and wants to kill Freddie.
It's very classic sci-fi horror and has a lot of untapped potential.
