3DS, by that point, sure.
PS4? Not really. It was outsold by the PS3 within Japan for a start, but again, look at it like this.
>Dragon Quest XI
One region.
Two consoles, with a combined install base of roughly 35 million (the vast majority of that number being the 3DS).
2 million in 2 days.
>Dragon Quest 3
Global launch.
Four platforms with a combined install base of basically EVERYONE on current hardware (somewhere in the realm of 300 million).
2 million in a month, with the vast majority of that still coming from Japan.
>Anyway, DQ3 was never popular outside japan.
Hardly a relevant factor considering it was marketed and viewed as a new title utilizing an existing and popular art style. Rather, that just shows a general lack of interest in DQ overall, which has always been a thing (you raise DQ8, forgetting it was sold on the back of FFXII).

Again, global release.
About 85% of that peak player count for DQ3 was Japan, it would continually tank to nothing whenever we reached night hours for Japan, and now that everyone over there has played it, its lost all real relevancy. You're shooting yourself in the foot by showing a late port of a game not many people liked having higher player counts than DQ3.
