I don't hate it, idk why there's a rabid hate boner for it, but I have no interest in playing it. The new character is not my thing, he looks too generic and boring. I like Ryu Hayabusa, and he's side character in his own franchise. So I'm not the target audience.

The game overall looks pretty average, average character design, average art direction, average world, like the usual modern platinum stuff. It comes off as a different game using Ninja Gaiden's name to sell, it doesn't look top quality like NG/DOA used to. NG/DOA where groundbreaking every time they were released, in visually, polish, and gameplay, this doesn't, and neither did NG2 Black, which was really a NG2 Sigma under the hood.
I want the franchise to succeed but I'm also not supporting something I don't like, or when it's headed in the wrong direction, all in hopes that the franchise will someday somehow return to what it was. That just doesn't' happen. I didn't support DOA6 for similar reasons. I'll gladly pay for rereleases of the old games, but not the new stuff if it continues on the same path.

bosses when done well are the absolute highlight of (all) video games for me. It's still problematic. That one side mission where there's like 10 kiteniggers was such a pain to get locked on to the one I actually wanted to target. At least in razors edge Ryu would automatically lock on to the ranged guys outside of the arena to kill them with the bow. I also find the grappling hook to be pretty unresponsive, the icon with the button prompt will flash and you'll just be spamming RB without it working right away, meanwhile you're getting shot to ribbons. Idk, I mostly like the encounter design so far but these guys are dumb.

I like this but so far I'm not loving as much as I thought even for a Platinum game, Bloodraven mechanic feels pretty clunky to me, the lock on makes Yakumo the least precise character to use in the series by a mile and there's so many weird non Ninja Gaiden things in here like the runningthrough empty spaceand twalking and talking. Mostly it's the flow of combat that gets to me, might be that Yakumo hits like a wet noodle outside Bloodraven even if he can delimb quick but he's definitely not that fun to play

different shapes and stage sizes give different context to the same encounters, it could be tougher (although that's probably not happening in dmc5) to fight the same retards since the arena could be much smaller so enemies get more opportunities to hit you or it could be easier since the arena shape could be weird and you could separate enemies from each other that way

DMC5 literally has that. Boot up mission 05 on SoS and above and you'll have to fight a group of Riots in a small arena; mind you Riots are literally designed to use walls to jump at you so they become exceedingly harder in such an environment.

There's a bunch of other examples like that throughout the game. Mission 07 has a huge escalator you fight enemies in. Mission 16 has you constantly falling inside what's more or less a tube. And so on and so on.

Couple with that that you're also playing three different characters in the normal campaign, and the game is filled with variety -- if you're actually engaging it on its own terms rather than creating arbitrary demands that don't actually add anything to the game or that it already has but you don't care to know about them.

Hell, you bitch about V, a character whose DT (Nightmare) has a gimmick that lets it destroy parts of the environment on summon. There's unique Nightmare summon spots on every other room in any of the V levels.

But you don't care about that.

Or what about range attacks not working on some of them but going through guards for others?

The Nelo 2 stage is even more haphazardly designed with you having the whole chalice "puzzle" on top of it and the further parts being completely disconnected from the fight (not to speak of the fixed camera, I know how sensitive the poser booty holes get in this board about that).

Oh and by the way, did you know Nelo 3 happens in a throne room? It's true, even though you have zero reason to ever go to the throne in the area and check it. It's probably because it was originally designed for the castle's Count which was later retrofitted into Sparda/Mundus. I just bring that fact up because that's the main inspiration behind Urizen's throne room.

the best strat for offense on higher difficulties in ng1 is hit confirming and delaying your string, enemies will dodge your first hit, but if do x delay y at a right timing (it's not hard btw) your y will always catch them, for enemies that block a lot or can tp all your strikes (mages do for example) you need different strats (although x delay y works on most enemies), but it's all stronger and more consistent than doing the wall jump y
