Coop(retarded, it can work but painkiller was meant to be single player) forces overdone boring mechanics.
Braindead melee pinata mechanic stolen from nudoom.
No actual level design. Proper level design includes pre-placed medkits(or souls I guess), armor, ammo etc. too, mind you. Arenas kind of sucked in OG too sometimes, now they doubled down.
Shitawful character design aimed at the usual suspects.
Retarded quipping. OG had the MC talk to NPCs in cutscenes, not fucking constantly.
Visually boring enemies.
I don't even want to know what they've done to established lore.

By the looks of it they wanted to make coop doom eternal but wanted some brand recognition to make a few more sells (and it didn't even work).
Painkiller black is a pretty good game but this looks nothing like it. Is it even made by the same devs?

It's not Painkiller. I'm not necessarily mad that they went in a Doom Eternal gameplay direction if they had somehow managed to combine that with old PK gameplay and level design, what I am mad about is that they made its gameplay centred around co-op and it's not fun to play solo. Like the entirety of its design and this is what ruined the design completely. It also looks like some light weighted version of Painkiller, it looks less dark and grim in general. More generic fantasy. I don't know how to describe it just doesn't 'look' right.

I dunno man, I thought og had some cool levels. Monasteries, opera house, jail, the expansion locations, normal, real life places because the purgatory is simply an empty reflection of the real world. But invaded by demons in this case.
Way better than generic brown cliff faces with "hellish" decoration in my honest opinion.

Reddit characters and humor are what killed it, because the game itself is actually fun. The original has a brutal lore, I wish they had kept that dark tone. The protagonists should have been criminals like in the original... also the devs HATE Catholics, instead of learning Catholic theology to make some cool purgatory/hell, no, they decided to shit on Catholics instead. This game is the definition of missed opportunity. Everything theme-wise is a mess... the game mechanics and overall gunplay are great.

The game also has this "codex" where you can read the lore that you unlock as you play, and it has the story of each character, you unlock the story pieces when they talk to each other. Great idea, but it's all nonsense. If the characters were criminals inspired by real life criminals we would have something actually interesting to read, but no, it's just plain nonsense, all reddit tier slop fiction.

I think it nu 3DR only had a publishing role this time, like it was on Ghostrunner since there is sabre interactive co-publishing too. The two games they're actually properly responsible for right now is Tempest Rising and Twisted Tower. They already technically went under on Phantom Fury. That's when all the major lay offs began. They've never done those festivals that promote boomer shooters ever since, 'realms deep'. It all went tits up from that moment on. Pretty much dead in the water by that point.

It's not the same 3D realms anymore. Literally nothing to do with the company or same studio. It was just bought up by another group/studio who wanted to pioneer retro FPS revival by buying it up, kind of like what New Blood Interactive is doing. But it's kind of worthless since Randy Pitchford owns Duke Nukem anyway so it's not like they can use his image/likeness in a game or ever call it Duke Nukem. Although I don't know how much Nu 3DR had to do with this Painkiller reboot, maybe they did have a bigger role. It's just weird because it's one of those co-publishing coincidences is all. They might have thought that this would win them back some good will or something.
