Nioh thread
I've been replaying this and it's a lot more fun than I remember even if it feels limited after so much time playing 2. I am looking forward to 3 but I'm really gonna miss mission based level design.

3 still has main missions that have more structured design but I guess the question is how many there will be and if their quality is reduced due to allocating time on the open fields.

nioh 2 ruined 1 for me because it's essentially the same game but noticeably better
sucks that they didn't port literally everything to 2
the last great general set looked so cool

The games are old enough that people have probably talked about them enough already, but I was hoping some other people were replaying 1 or 2 and would have something to talk about. I never bothered doing 1's DLCs since I wasn't that into it when it came out (loved 2 but thought it would be too hard to go back to 1) and it's fun finally playing through them.

It's a shame that TN isn't just a little better at storytelling because I really like the spirit animal stuff.
Gameplay is 10/10 of course. They really nailed post game progression and character building.

I've been replaying 2 lately. I really should go back and play 1, don't think I have since 2 released.
Also read an article where ng+ plus was confirmed to be in 3.

>I'm really gonna miss mission based level design
it's not like the semi open world levels won't have main and side missions in them, so if anything it's just less loading screens and more running around fighting and collecting shit, which sounds good to me. I will miss the soulful map screen though.

RotR's story wasn't too bad honestly. I think they're getting better at writing.

Anyway, what weapons are rocking when the game comes out? for me it's
>samurai
1kat/spear
>ninja
1kat(hopefully it's like blue oni style in ronin/tonfa

>and if their quality is reduced due to allocating time on the open fields.

Has this ever not been the case? Every game is compromised when it goes open world.
Then you add in the fact they've added a jump button, which may add combat depth but further sterilizes level design if they're lazy about it, and judging by the demo, TN have absolutely been lazy about it.
We're literally getting another Rise of the Ronin. Fun combat, dogshit everything else.

I still don't know what the last ninja and last two samurai weapons are. I don't think anything was revealed at this event - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQHHikuP1IM&t=112s

We've seen them all already, go find the preorder bonus or digital deluxe info, can't remember which, as it has images of all of them.
This is the list:

>Spear
>Axe
>Switchglaive
>Odachi

Ninja
>1kat
>2kat
>Fist (called Talons)

It depends on how compact the open fields are. If it's kept relatively small-ish then that leaves room for more focus on the main mission areas. I thought the alpha was good overall and the open field didn't feel too needlessly huge but we'll see how the final game goes. The crucible mission in the alpha was alright, not their best but not their worst either. Jumping just allows more verticality, I don't think it sterilizes level design. You weren't able to jump over everything and just skip the whole level in the alpha's crucible mission for example. RotR's open world was too big imo and it did hurt the main missions a lot though. I thought the world was aesthetically pleasing but it was too empty overall so I hope they improve for Nioh 3. The alpha is definitely an improvement so far at least.

Ninja 1kat is confirmed to be wielded reverse grip style, I'm highly interested in it as well.
Anonymous No.723842645 [Report] >>723842976 >>723843279
what do we think the chances of them adding all weapons to each style is in post release content? it just seems silly not to when they already have full movesets for samurai

Thank you, but are you going just off of this image or is there more info? Because I think there's a chance Splitstaff is samurai and Switchglaive is ninja.

I was thinking of it being a content patch, not part of the DLCs. there would definitely be some backlash if they did that

>>723842950
>2 DLCs instead of 3
it's fucking over unless they're each a lot bigger than the previous ones, they always did feel kinda small
Anonymous No.723843279 [Report] >>723843554
>>723842645
Very low, they might add a new weapon type or two as usual though. The way they split some of the weapons is thematic; like a kusarigama is very ninja-ish so I don't think they'll give it the samurai version back.
>>723842950
Switchglaive can only function correctly as a samurai weapon since it needs stances to transform into each mode. A naginata or glaive is more samurai-ish as well. Staff is ninja because staff is also a traditional Ninja Gaiden weapon (Lunar). Also I think some of the out-of-bounds shenanigans from the alpha confirmed staff as a ninja weapon but I might be remembering wrong.

To be honest, Koei's biggest weakness is level design so I'm glad if they're changing things up from missions. I feel like they've been improving a little in this respect after playing Wo Long and Rise of the Ronin tho.

They're probably going to each be a little bigger than before due to the open field stuff.

Switchglaive could use a hold button scheme like the Splitstaff to transform. Also - FUCK the edgy Switchglaive trash weapon that should've been the Naginata.

>>723843554
What would be the difference between the spear and a naginata
Anonymous No.723843829 [Report]
>>723843554
You could do that but staff already has a "hold to extend" setup and there's no reason to go through all the effort of trying to entirely rework switchglaive when it's much easier to just keep it as a stance weapon. It's not just the three modes but also the unique stance-switch attacks it had while attacking. Basically what odachi was initially trying to do but executed better.

Idk much about Japanese history, are we literally playing as Ieyasu in 3? Or just someone in his family.

If you're worried about that image specifically, then you can already see which is ninja or samurai based on the color.
Kusarigama is the red one on the far left, Switchglaive is the black one on the far right. They would both have to be red if they were both ninja weapons.

I pre-ordered Nioh 3 Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam. I love how Nioh 3 is massively reducing the RPG elements and massively increasing the ACTION elements of the Nioh formula. Team Ninja is taking a huge shit in the mouth of all the Nioh 2 subhuman fanboys who claimed for years that "Nioh 2 perfected the Nioh formula". Imagine getting refuted and BTFO'd by the developers themselves, it is so humiliating for them.

>Leveling up attributes reduced and the weapon scalings simplified
>The amount of returning Nioh 2 dedicated Samurai weapons with weapon stances system reduced to only 7 from 11.
>All the new dedicated Ninja Style weapons are Ninja Gaiden inspired and focus heavily on action and aerial movement.
>Switching between Samurai Style and Ninja Style is completely optional
>Ninja Style can dispel Yokai Realm
>Team Ninja confirmed you can beat the entire game as a Ninja Style purist
>Onmyo magic completely gutted and simplified
>Living Weapons are back and stronger than ever

I can't wait to enjoy Nioh 3, the game that made Nioh 2 irrelevant and avenged Nioh 1 bros. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Team Ninja.
