It's the implication that's the problem. When I think of using AI in games, I think of textures and environments. If you resort to AI for that, that means your game is full of open barren areas and open world slop that would be too much work to handcraft.

the problem with that mindset is that you need people to tardwrangle AI slop for "the boring shit" because if you don't it'll churn out half functional (if not completely non-functional) vibe code bullshit. and if you're at that point anyway you may as well just do it properly. and this isn't getting into the fact that some people just aren't creative types and flourish better with "the boring shit," DOOM wouldn't be DOOM if it only had John Romero or John Carmack, you needed both of them working in tandem.

I do think "let AI handle the boring stuff so the creative stuff can be handled by us" is a noble endeavor but it simply doesn't work in reality.

Yeah, unfortunately it might hurt people that way, at least short term. But looking at it purely in terms of development, AI is a useful tool.

I disagree that there is some "movie game" crisis and that games bloat because they focus too much on the story. MGS2 wasn't AI = bad anyways. It was about the truth and what a person can do in a world where it becomes impossible to know it. The AI were trying to solve the problem by manufacturing a greater context, but they were doing it from a managerial perspective. The Truth was never really interesting so much as a "truth" that allows for effective governance.
