Yes first game has a 10/10 story and Termina has 11/10 character writing. The turn based combat is pretty good, much more developed in Termina but both are pretty fun.

No, there are so many modern games that you can clip ten minutes of for whatever mechanic you're looking to get out of some 5+ year old slop and then you won't have to commit to the rest of the slog around it to get it. Only poor and lonely people play old games.
