Beat OFF for the first time
I promised an anon here to play the original, not sure if they're here or if they'd see this. But here's my review of the game.
Really liked the gameplay, even if a bit tedious at times it was enjoyable until the end. It always had me panic over decisions and options while in the middle of battle, kind of like following a rhythm. Some bosses were too easy, but the last one was quite the challenge. The puzzles were mostly great, some left me pretty confused I had to look up a walkthrough for a few I didn't get.
Story was pretty good too, I already have an idea of what was going on besides the obvious final plot point. Here's my point of view which could be completely wrong but, the elements were things that his son associated his father with. Meat being one of his favorite things, ordering a peppered steak at the diner. Smoke with how much he smoked. Plastic with the toys he'd get from him. And the metal from his bat (if it's a metal bat and not a wooden one) And the secret one being more personal for the son himself since his mother wouldn't let him have sugar. Which is why he could learn attacks with those elements
And finally, music. It was quite the trip, I liked many of the tracks. But I went to listen to the remake ones and some I really like more.
Overall, fantastic game. I can see other indies like Deltarune and Omori and see where they got all their inspirations from.
