I played it every day for like a week and then got bored and put it down.

It's fun until you find every card, and figure out the combinations that best manipulate the RNG in your favor, but then you're come to the realization that at the end of the day you're still just watching a RNG play itself.

Obelisk sucks though because there is no way to keep the multiplier.
If you lose the multiplier when you play your most played hand (or whatever hands are tied at the top). Then eventually, the hands that weren't the most played, eventually will be.
And when there is no longer a hand that is less played than the others. Then you can't avoid Obelisk resetting itself.

na obelisk is a run winning joker, especially on high stakes. if you have jokers that give chips and + mult you can transition out of spamming pair to boot up the Obelisk, since your hand levels won't matter anymore.

the game ends at ante 8. You can easily win before obelisk is forced to be reset.
Obviously it isn't great for endless but the only strategies that are good for going deep into endless are baron retriggers and observatory perkele stacking so that's not really something to hold against it.

there is no faster scaling xMult than obelisk. you have to rely on RNG to scale cat and you have to invest for constellation/hologram. obelisk is 0.2x for simply playing a hand once online.

I had a run where I spammed two pair to scale pants. Just as I was getting outscaled by the scoring obelisk showed up and I started playing other hands. Free win since I kept the +mult from pants

Well I never even tried any of the challenges. Just seem tedious and boring with all the restrictions. Love me my yellow deck, simple as.
As for C++, I just played few runs a day to get it done. I also got very lucky with all the Legendary jokers having gold stickers before even finishing gold stakes on all decks.

It's bad if you've built your entire run around playing a single hand, but it's great if you have the jokers to pivot out of it. 0.2 xmult per non-leading hand played is a level of growth that's unmatched by most other jokers, all you need are chips and +mult jokers and then you can play whatever you want and not even worry about it because your hand type no longer matters

It's only true if you can pivot at the right moment. And have enough stacks at that time to be able to start ramping Obelisk.
If you start ramping Obelisk too late it won't have time to get good. And if you do it too early you won't be able to sustain the multiplier for when it really matters.

It looked like your typical youtube slop to start with, but the dev kept adding more and more content, sometimes even weekly, for the past year. Looking at the steam trailer that's never been updated, it's kind of crazy how much he's added since.
He seems to have slowed recently, but according to one of his last update posts it's because he's working on making the TCG playable ingame or something equally insane
Just goes to show how one dedicated dev can make a big difference

One of the least known things about Balatro is that it was playtested a shit ton. Most of these clones are solo dev'd and don't really playtest it beyond themselves. Balatro's had a shit ton of changes from it's early days. Him working with the community that tried the demo to improve it was everything.

Extensive playtesting and a dev who listened to the playtesters about balance. Thunk recruited some people who were really good in the beta and engaged heavily on the Discord server to continue to provide feedback after the beta closed, with the most notable one being Dr. Spectered of Balatro University, which is why most of the easy money infinites were patched out though you can still do the Perkeo negative consumable trick

the only real flaw with the game i feel is that the game incentivizes many early restarts on higher difficulty. its not that fun to play out a rough early game when the shops just give you nothing

Eh, if you just want easy runs, sure, but conversely, you sometimes have runs where you're just barely crawling and then hit a blueprint and suddenly you start scaling hard. I would like it if there was the ability to set the first skip tag like you can with the Brainstorm mod on PC where it'll give you a random seed that fulfills your criteria, maybe unlocked after beating all the decks on gold stake.
