How do they keep getting away with it?

I think the weirdest thing is a singleplayer game getting live service updates and special events over Mario Kart.

Huh?
Have I missed stuff because I've been playing Silksong?
Anonymous No.723870804 [Report]
>>723870647
No, it's going to be next week. It's just an event that adds modifiers to Emerald Rush that increases the spawn rates of certain kinds of perks (chip-related ones in this case) and you'll get a Kong Bananza and an Enguarde statue if you reach a certain score while the event is going on. They'll most likely rotate once all events are done like, say, the costumes in Mario Tennis Aces.

Just dont play it. I gave up on FOMO. I will play seasonal stuff if I play currently, and might even grind for it, but I dont care if I miss cosmetics for a game I dont play anymore.

Nintendo does this kind of thing all the time. It's time-gated, but not permanently missable. It's a yearly schedule.

I recently completed everything I wanted to do with the game. I really enjoyed it, but sort of feel like I should move on to other things. Also the DLC is probably too expensive and I might pick it up later if it goes on discount or something.

>>723871867
Still, it's odd to do it in a purely single-player game. I love Emerald Rush and I'll stay on top of these events but it's annoying having to check when one is available and play in a specific window. The statues aren't anything important but it's nice to see DK Island all decorated.

Because everybody else has already gotten away with this for decades?
Why even ask such a retarded question that you already know the answer to?
Anonymous No.723872413 [Report]
Emerald Rush is legitimately great. Getting the multipliers going and seeing your score go higher and higher is surprisingly exhilarating.

I mean, if you release a DLC a month after release, it look bad. I understand that development wise it's after the game was going gold that they started it, but they planned it. No real reason to not have the seasonal stuff in the base game.
Anonymous No.723876315 [Report]
>>723875601
I get that it looks bad, but on the flip side Nintendo has a history of having games finished and ready to launch years in advance before even announcing them.
The base game could have been finished long before DLC was even planned.

Very fun and addictive as long as you like roguelite modes. It makes you get intimately familiar with the levels and experiment with DK's moveset, which is something you could do in the base game but was never necessary. As someone already said, seeing your combo go up is extremely satisfying.
Anonymous No.723879016 [Report]
>>723876786
I am not saying it's effective because people will forget this is a thing almost immediately, but I assume the idea is that they have very few Switch 2 games out at the moment, so creating a replayable side mode for one of their only games and giving it seasonal rewards would encourage people to come back to it every now and then to keep the Switch 2 relevant even with a small library. Why they didn't use fucking Mario Kart for this is anyone's guess.

I'd rather them have released it in September when Bananza was still fresh and they had no other game coming out than wait a couple more months to create the illusion they didn't make it immediately after the base game and have it be buried by Pokémon, Hyrule Warriors, Kirby and Metroid.

It’s $20 for a half assed roguelite mode. It’s one of the biggest scams Nintendo has ever released. DK Island is completely barren and doesn’t even have any bananas.

I'm one person and I'll play the events because the mode is fun. If few other people will, then their takeaway will be that it's not worth it, but for me it's no big deal either way.

because that's not the focus of the dlc
all the development effort went onto the roguelite mode

the "consumer" narrative implies it follows the cut content narrative, because if they didn't care, they'd realize the main focus was the roguelite

In other words, offering a product that enough people are willing to buy. You're just butthurt because either: A) the product doesn't appeal to you and this upsets you for some psychotic reason, or B) you're too poor to afford the product.
