I fail to see any digimon fan who wants the IP to become as popular as Pokemon. That would unironically destroy it, why do you think Pokemon has a literal UN Agenda goals as a theme for the gyms in Their next gen ? That's something only an IP as big as Pokemon can be seen having because first it's big so it grabs the attention of such organizations to push their agenda and second pokemon always sells so there's no risk in doing so.

Z-A is meh, combat is much nicer than any other Pokémon game, but everything else about it is boring and tedious. Still no voice acting in their lip-synced cutscenes. I'm not a big JRPG player or anything, but the combat mechanics feel alright to me.
They don't see complicated to me, each digimon has one of 3 types that interact in a rock paper scissors configuration, then each individual digimon has a combination of elements (fire, eletricity, null, sacred, etc) that they are weak and resistant to.
There are generic moves that deal damage, buff you, debuff your opponents, moves that revert the opponent's weaknesses, that paralyze, poison, put them to sleep, there are moves that reflect physical and magical damage, etc.
Each digimon also has one or more unique moves that sometimes have an extra bonus against certain types (evil, beast, humanoid, etc), that sometimes are just damage, sometimes have a debuff attached, sometimes it's a healing skill, etc.
There's also some neat mechanics like some digimon being able to fuse in battle to give you access to extra moves and maybe a different type.
Basically, you have a lot of tools, with some like being able to reverse the enemy's type or reflect certain kinds of damage being powerful as fuck.

Digimon kinda fumbled its games and anime after Tamers.
There was a long period where Digimon either shook off fans with weird entries, or just faded from the minds of kids because it wasn't around anymore. The lack of a central media identity contributed to this a bit, but really, it was the fact that both anime and games failed for a while. Either one being decent could have kept the brand on life support, but niether did well. Meanwhile Pokémon, for better or worse, put another new mainline game on the shelf every year or two, and the anime was always running. Some years were good, some years were bad, but it was always there. If someone fell off for a year or two, it would still be there and remind you it existed next year, meanwhile a LOT of people fit somewhere into the template of "oh yeah, Digimon was cool, I watched the cartoon and played a game or two, then I guess I forgot about it until Cyber Sleuth".
Some of those people have dug into the lost decade and a half of digimon's history with varying results. I've heard some of these people actually like the xros war anime, and Savers has picked up a bit of a following, but a lot either bounced off again, or just went back to sleep until Time Stranger.

02 was a step down, but it was a reasonable step down. It didn't buck the entire premise of the show.
Again, Pokemon has had quite a few steps down in quality, but they were still pretty consistent, and 02 fits with that mold.
Frontier really sank the ship with the disastrous decision to make the monster training franchise a shitty Kamen rider knockoff instead.

Honestly the mon genre is just a fat piece of shit to me at this point. Both sides of this "argument" are fake and gay.

Tried ZA, it's more talking than playing yet somehow has extremely minimal story and the actual gameplay, city and exploration are garbage, the graphics suck and really there's just nothing great about it, it's 5/10. there's not even much else to say it's just bland as fuck and boring.

So tried the new Digimon, since you pretenders and fakers are acting like it's the Pokemon killer you've always dreamed of. And somehow it has just as much pointless talking and bullshit but it's not even tutorials, it's just characters repeating what just fucking happened back to you, then commenting on that, then someone repeating their comment back to you. All that just to get to the gameplay, which is just a hallway explorer with extremely basic mon 'catching' (scanning) and raising, and a battle system where you can just put it on auto because even the devs knew it was too boring to play with almost no strategy and no fun beyond the dumb anime cutscene attacks which get old FAST if you're a real gamer. 5/10 as well.
