The difficulty tier as I understand it right now are normal raids/trials -> Extreme trials -> Savage raids -> Ultimate

Yet despite this, any content at Extreme difficulty or more, you would be expected to have watched an external guide if the content is not fresh for PUGs. This changes the playstyle from being adaptive, to be based on who has great memorization skills. A lot of this is based on group accountability. A mistake on your part at a certain mechanic, can lead to the death of 7 other players without compromise. There are certain instances where one or two players might survive, but being in such a crippled state, you're better off restarting.

To promote more strategies where you 'wing it' and find success, should Extreme trials remove instant raid wipe mechanics from a single person's failure? The mechanic's punishment would then be player-specific or maybe their partner also gets yeeted, but this leads to more situations that are recoverable. As a compromise, more chaotic mechanics that are less puzzle-based could be included. After all, there's a reason why Barbariccia is remembered so fondly as a fun Extreme.

The community kinda ruins the game for me. I get you can play the game solo and all but just looking for discussion on the game or other stuff just leaves me cringing. Shit unironically feels like I'm into diaper fetish or something.

It's not a diss on XIV or anything it's just something I'm looking to overcome but fuck man, this community is so weird.
Anonymous No.723882749 [Report] >>723882943
Guides exist to lay out a framework for people who are not good at making on the fly decisions a streamlined way to clear the content.
Anonymous No.723882943 [Report]
>>723882749
I wish XIV content was dynamically better. Having to rely on 7 other people sucks. You can't even get "so good" you can carry unless you're super late in the tier and the mechanics has no "you instantly die if someone messes up"

There is HoH and PoTD I guess but I wouldn't even say it's the right type of solo content given there's no tangible rewards and it's a mix of way too RNG and having to rely on cheese tactics which sucks.
Anonymous No.723883267 [Report]
Without a reasonable punishment for failure then people can basically zombie fights. If you remove raid wiping then there needs to a somewhat reasonable punishment on the player who dies to keep them engaged, something like the bozjan front system of rewarding perfect play with a chance at a special reward maybe.

Anonymous No.723885424 [Report]
They decided that every PvE content requires preparation. You're asking for something entirely new by design and they always refused to entirely embrace a different philosophy. Of course, I do believe they should absolutely add another PvE type of content that wouldn't be about memorization, but replayability is so low on their priority list that you shouldn't expect much.

I mean I'd say they were in HW/SB day. Then they realized that might be a bad idea especially with stuff with old diadem.
Anonymous No.723887609 [Report] >>723895081
Though, the modular difficulty is a great idea overall. I do hope that SE applies that too. Because I want to do dungeons in FF14 that just had a bit more bite to them. I want casual content that actually needs my tank to use mit on a tankbuster. Or dungeon achievements that WoW has historically done, where you had to beat bosses with specific conditions making them tougher.

I've seen players around the forums and the main sub defending it, with the argument that a player would feel miserable seeing the same job doing too much with their kits.

Like... I don't understand the logic. In my mind, that's supposed to be actually "cool, look what I'll have when I level up!". Plus, leveling in XIV is as easy as playing the MSQ.

FFXIV fight design is just more engaging. I do battle content in FFXIV for the sake of doing it. I love the intricacy of solving mechanics in Ultimates, in WoW it's mostly very braindead 'dont stand in bad' even in the higher difficulty raids and Mythic+. In fact PFing Savage on release in FFXIV can take me some time between coordinating to get the right group and weeks, even months to clear the tier depending on how much time I sink into it. New Heroic raids in WoW on release I can clear in 3 hours if I luck out with a group but usually it's easy enough to clear week one if you don't get a full party of braindead people.
Anonymous No.723892272 [Report]
I mean the only thing I don't like about job design and leveling up is a lot of 50-60-70-80-90-100 don't build on each other nice at all. So you'll have something jank for 50-70, be okay for 80ish - suddenly have something kinda jank for 90 until 100 cleans it out. It just feels pretty ass to play this way.

One last tidbit from the super nerd in me: the RP community in WoW is so vast with such a crazy deep amount of lore to pull from to make legit any kind of character concept you can dream up, and jumping into doing it with the community is so easy on servers that are always accessible. I find breaking into the RP community a lot harder in FFXIV, and especially hard since a lot of us have to come up with WoL and non-WoL canons for interacting with our friends vs interacting with the wider populace, so it's a little bit more effort on the writing side on how you want to approach it. I'm not always in the mood to write because I'm not much of a creative person so I have to be in a specific mood but FFXIV feels like it requires more effort to hit that side of the community.

I’m still “new” to FFXIV - I played when the EW expansion was wrapping up. But I heard that classes did have more unique identities to them just they made it more simple. Which is nice for the same reason you said of “I can come back and easily pick it up” but yeah it would be nice if playing different classes felt more different. As I thought Dark Knight in ffxiv had more Hp costs to their skills from what I’ve seen people say online. But currently leveling alt jobs and ya it just feels very the same all across the board rn, hopefully feels better at higher levels
Anonymous No.723893091 [Report]
Wym you heard classes had more unique identities? ShB and HW homogonized a shit ton of stuff. I didn't come back for DT.
Anonymous No.723893162 [Report]
FFXIV is not flexible like that. I enjoyed the game a lot more in StB and before. I obviously enjoyed the game after that point, but it felt like the wrong direction over and over. So it is enjoy what they do to the game as years go by and like it.

You assume the people who care about Q40 remotely care about Deep Dungeon. Problem is theres are 2 vastly different pieces of content and most people interested in the main endgame fight probably dont care about running the deep dungeon. Also the people who do Q40 are running with their friends anyways so they wouldnt even bother queuing into the Deep Dungeon to begin with.

The reward structure of the game is so fundamentally broken for an MMO. Character progression fundamentally doesnt exist and the only thing on offer is useless glamour and a never ending hampster wheel of gear invalidation that people have gaslit themselves into believing is a good system.

As others have said, even though FFXIV has a better story, the questing and leveling experience is really bad. Personally, I typically only tolerate visual novels-esque games if they are not combat games, like Life is Strange. FFXIV questing and leveling really get on my nerve sometimes. Wow also really shines in terms of glamour/transmog experience. I feel like I am being punished for getting gears in FFXIV because I somehow have to find places to put them. But I can’t because there are a bunch of fishing and crafting mats, plus questing mats, furnitures and stuff. So I just throw them away. Then next round of content comes and I am like, why do I even bother getting those items that

I can easily get myself caught up within a day or two, even have a fresh character caught up within a week. There's so much content I can do with relatively little time commitment that still feels reasonably rewarding. I don't feel like I'm falling behind if I don't play every day/week and there are reasonable goals I can accomplish that still feel rewarding without having to commit to the most difficult content. All of this makes it really easy to get friends involved, too.

People who want a weapon drop from Q40 don't want the PT weap, they want a unique Q40 weap (like an aetherpool grip upgrade that makes the weapon glow, not the grip itself). If the reward was something you could easily get from typical PT play like aetherpool grips, I don't think that'd actually alleviate any of the complaints. Quantum is already efficient when it comes to farming PT stuff more quickly than in PT, the people complaining want something that you need to do Quantum to get.

That being said, I do enjoy FFXIV more. It’s subjective and all that, but I like the mechanical bite more, I like the way that jobs play with its own buttons more, I enjoy how the world looks more…It doesn’t have game first, though. It’s designed for the story and by god, it doesn’t care what you think of it, and I…respect that? Them being so stubborn about things is a plus in its own right (same for Blizzard; this isn’t meant to be a WOW BAD FFXIV GOOD post, especially since I’m playing Remix right now). I also much prefer SE’s style of announcements: Here’s the thing, here’s the date, peace.

I was horribly bored with Endwalker's Dungeons and EX Trials. DT design was a breath of fresh air - especially doing it at the start where you didn't totally out ilevel the 2 Extremes and Optional Dungeons.
