Tattoos actually gave players more agency over their builds than ever before, mostly because they fucked the regular tree so hard, then they didn't bring back any of the tattoos that let you have that power. The point being that the company doesn't actually fucking want you to be able to do anything with the tree apart from keystones and jewel sockets - keystones that they regularly fuck too.

My first Bloodlines game & as a big Vampire fan, i’m loving it so far!
The traversal, combat, protagonists great voice acting & the overall “aura” has been great fun. I’m 5 hours in, finding collectibles, super punching Anarchs off rooftops & immersing myself in the lore. So far, beyond some simple QOL changes, i’m thoroughly enjoying myself.

I’m super glad to finally have a big vampire game to sink my teeth into ;)

I don't know, it strikes me as self-righteous in an unfun, meta, sort of way. I haven't seen too many of them but it always felt like they were meant to be portrayed as genuine do-gooders in a way that made them exempt from the usual personality issues vampires are meant to have. I remember the one in Parliament of Knives being like that. In Bloodlines 2 the guy doesn't have much of a character other than sending you out to murder "bad people". That's not quite true. It's not especially bad compared to other open world games. But I also think it's something we've lost with the advancement in graphics. Nowadays, there's an expectation for a lifelike level of detail, which tends to crowd out recognizable landmarks which in turn makes maps feel less well defined. The original Bloodlines hub areas were pretty small and empty but that's what gave them their uniqueness. I can practically visualize the entire Downtown hub area but that's because it's so small and there's little going on aside from the actual buildings we go into for the story.

I kind of like that. I wish more devs deliberately went with this kind of design and focused on quality instead of quantity. Like, imagine a Skyrim "city" of like 20 houses but each family is made up of fully realized NPCs with lots of dialogue and all sorts of intrigue and secrets and just things you can observe by watching the NPCs go about their day. Inventory system was just not needed because the game had no real loot. There were only blood packs, useless misc items to sell. Weapons could have been just a reel you switch through and artifacts were just perks.

Lockpicking and hacking was useless because there is no loot in the game and there is nothing to explore. For just reading le funny emails you don't need to hack, the PCs are enough.
