If you gave it to a 12 year old boy, would he have fun with it? Yeah I think he would. However, it still has some flaws.
The combat is serviceable, but most of the enemies have hitscan weapons, so whether or not you die is not really based on skill, but luck. A lot of the weapons aren't balanced very well too.
Some of the comedy is kind of outdated, I was an edgy teenager when it was released in 2003 so of course I thought it was funny, but now it's a little cringe. There's still some funny stuff in it though.
This is more of a nitpick, but there's really not much to do other than the main tasks, you can explore much of the city for ammo and weapons, there's also some events that happen on certain days, but that's about it.
I would say that Postal 2 holds up for its artistic and historical importance, there really wasn't many open world sand box type games at the time, and the whole game was made more as a critique of society and their thoughts about video games, which is interesting to know and appreciate.
Ultimately, yeah, it holds up.
