Normalfags don't give a fuck to actually completing games, only 14-18% of the consumers actually play games to completion.

Every yellow paint, every invisible box, every tutorial, every radio buddy, all this cancer is not because "the normies can't deal with it".
It is because the story writer is fucking pissed off that no one want to see "their entire masterpiece", so they whine and scream and demand that the gamers need to be forced to play the game as a whole, no matter the costs.

In fact, all these cancers are the fault of the playtest culture.
There is that famous example from Valve where game designers simplified the map because a retarded girl who doesn't even like games got lost for hours in a fork because she always took the wrong path.
Game devs aren't creating games, they're creating interactive experiences that are retard-proof because they want to sell them to as many human beings as possible. The yellow paint is probably a scientific way they found to make playtesters (mostly people who have no interest in and don't buy video games) more likely to pass the levels without getting bored.

In short: game devs don't know how to make games and think that what they do needs to be idiot-proof.

Which stems from liberal universalism, which demands everything be for everyone and prevents game developers from thinking "I want to make a game for x type of person and no one else" like the japanese manga industry which is stratified into genres like shonen, seinen, and so on and doesn't have to be limited to the lowest common denominator. Same reason we can't have games with tits, it has to be palatable to literally everyone.

Cool. I don't think I'm tricking myself when I say I see the similarities between these and >>723915953. It's amazing how these areas have such appeal even though (speaking as a city dweller) they can be intolerable in real life. I suppose it's the man-made equivalent of a mountain range or some other extreme in nature: vast, overwhelming, interesting to visit (even through the medium of a video game), but hell to live in.

Yes, but From Software games break a lot of these taboos and are still mainstream.
So the playtest culture, where developers watch people who don't like games and won't buy games (this part is important) and base level and mechanic on them, is a big mistake. They assume that if they can please even those who don't like games, they will have a product with bigger sales potential, but this is just an illusion.

If you're in a city, you don't get to explore them that much. Most of your exploration is limited to the ground level, and even in buildings with public fronts you often gotta at least pretend you're shopping.
Anonymous No.723921891 [Report]

lol that's not the reason why.
Now that game publishers are owned and funded by huge firms, they want people to experience the whole game so they can absorb as much propaganda as possible.
Writers don't have a single shred of power in the industry, in fact they are quite loathed.

The real Hong Kong is pretty still like this for alot of buildings. It's just that Walled City was a extreme example of lawlessness and density. Go to older areas like Mong Kok or Kwun Tong and you'll find plenty of hyperdense amalgations of housing and commercial centres.

>>723921817
>>723920117

You can also go into alot of these buildings in Hong Kong (or Asia) in general. It's actually quite interesting sometimes to find all manner of small pop shops hidden in the upper floors of commercial centres. Locking everything public to the ground level is more of a unique feature of Western cities.

Most people don't have hours over hours to spend with games.
They just want to feel the mechanics a bit, have some fun and then go out and touch grass, or go back into being a phone zombie.
This is why GTA sells so much, it's excelent at just providing a short, novel experience every time you play it a bit.
