Xenoblade 3 disappointed me too, but I actually think it's still a really interesting game. What disappoints me about 3 though is the battle system feels toned down, they kind of fucked up chain attacks, and the environmental design is shit in most of the areas compared to the previous three games. 3 has warmed up to me though, I've replayed it quite a few times and there's a lot of really impressive things about it, such as the character animations, especially facial animations, good voice acting, the designs are badass for the ouroboros. I'd say the plot is really interesting and fucked me up way more than the plot did for 2 or 1 which is saying something. The game somewhat lacks an identity because it's a mishmash of all the stuff from 1 and 2. I feel it leans too hard into the characters/enemies and systems from those games. It's a novel concept, but the execution was flawed. It's a more well rounded game, but it doesn't hit the same highs as the previous two, even if the story has some dramatic moments, good choregraphy and writing.
If it's a xenoblade game and the environment is lacking, that hurts the experience. Also having copy and paste colonies instead of full blown cities is disappointing. Yeah I like "the city", and it's a pretty cool fucking city, but that's really the only one asides from the big Agnes base in the ocean or the castle town, which you don't really get to explore till the end of the game and feels like a ghost town even after you free Melia
