i don't think it was ever like that? i mean, it depends greatly on the combat encounter. generally for example high level warlocks will cast shit like hunger of hadar or sometimes you'll run into a special encounter like balthazaar casting cloudkill but i don't think most encounters are about getting mass CC'd by casters
or did you mean in comparison to BG1/2? because yeah mage combat autism is my least favourite thing about those games. granted base BG1/2 AI is retarded so you don't usually run into issues beyond the early game unless you get unlucky or you're playing with a mod that fixes the AI

Literally every Obsidian game ever fits in this thread. It's always the same story. They are simultaniously the best and worst videogame developers. That spy game they made is just straight ass though. Picrel is the first game I played that has no glaring technical issues and shit but then the entire last third of it is pure shit, like to the point that it is not worth playing beyond the second act.

It's an amazing game that explores the setting in a way that was never really tried before.
The gameplay is fucking awful with the switches to the other party members especially for a first run. Going to Atton against the twins is dreadful when you do it the first time and don't know it's going to happen.

Good presentation and side stuff to do for a cowboy sandbox but the controls and the pacing of the main story is sooooo ass! For all the praise the story gets, it's no better than any pulp radio talk cowboy story slop that my grandpa forced me to listen to and watch.
