I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream just got an update. What did I think of this 30 year old game?

Harlan Ellison doesn't give a shit
>He said, "Are you Isaac Asimov?" And in his voice was awe and wonder and amazement.
>I was rather pleased, but I struggled hard to retain a modest demeanor. "Yes, I am," I said.
>"You're not kidding? You're really Isaac Asimov?" The words have not yet been invented that would describe the ardor and reverence with which his tongue caressed the syllables of my name.
>I felt as though the least I could do would be to rest my hand upon his head and bless him, but I controlled myself. "Yes, I am," I said, and by now my smile was a fatuous thing, nauseating to behold. "Really, I am."
>"Well, I think you're—" he began, still in the same tone of voice, and for a split second he paused, while I listened and the audience held its breath. The youngster's face shifted in that split second into an expression of utter contempt and he finished the sentence with supreme indifference, "—a nothing!"

It wasn't too bad prior to the update. I think it just ran through DOSBox.

I read a collection of Ellison's greatest hits. A lot of them were alight, some were kinda meh. Jeffty is Five was my favorite of the collection, with the thread theme as the second best.

It was a cool 90s apocalyptic depress-fest and I enjoyed it quite a bit but wouldn't really want to play through it a second time.
The gritty style was something I wish was more studios replicated in modern gaming.

reading his and Asimov's stuff made me realize, I probably coulda made it as a writer 50 - 60 years ago. Oh well. It's good stuff but most of it is pretty meh, but that makes sense when you realize these guys wrote short stories for magazines and that was basically their bread and butter in between books.

this is literally the kind of thing the author would have put in the game if he was forced to add achievements. do you know nothing about Harlan???

>Ellen's section
Rape. Let me tell you how much I've come to rape you since all this started. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word 'rape' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the rape I want for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Rape. Rape.

>During a contract dispute with Signet/NAL Books binding cigarette ads into one of Ellison's paperbacks, he sent them dozens of bricks postage due, followed by a dead gopher.
>The Last Dangerous Visions, the third volume of Ellison's anthology series, was originally announced for publication in 1973, but not published until October 2024, 6 years after Ellison died. Many of the stories were withdrawn, because Ellison acted like a dick. Of the ones that remain, most of them are by writers who are now deceased, so the rights have expired and the estates would have to be traced. A lot of the writers have disowned their stories as juvenilia, or outdated, or simply because Ellison was acting like a dick."
>In 1985, Ellison allegedly publicly assaulted author, journalist and computer programmer Charles Platt at the Nebula Awards banquet. Platt did not pursue legal action against Ellison and the two men later signed a "non-aggression pact", promising never to discuss the incident again nor to have any contact with one another. Platt claims that Ellison often publicly boasted about the incident.
>Ellison was presented with a special committee award at the 2006 Hugo Awards ceremony. When Ellison got to the podium, presenter Connie Willis asked him "Are you going to be good?" When she asked the question a 2nd time, Ellison put the microphone in his mouth, to the crowd's laughter. He then placed his hand on her breast during an embrace. Ellison subsequently complained that Willis refused to acknowledge his apology.
>On September 20, 2006,Ellison sued comic book and magazine publisher Fantagraphics, stating they had defamed him in their book Comics As Art. The book discussed a lawsuit that resulted from a 1980 Ellison interview with Fantagraphics' news magazine, The Comics Journal. In this interview Ellison referred to comic book writer Michael Fleisher, calling him "bugfuck" and "derange-o". Fleisher lost his libel suit against Ellison and Fantagraphics on December 9, 1986

You missed the part where he insults and gets into a physical altercation with a Fox executive during the early production of I, Robot, causing them to fire him and completely reboot the project turning into the Will Smith ego project that we all know.
There was also the time that he assaulted his professor after the professor called his writing shit and will never get published. He subsequently sends the professor a copy of everything he ever has published until the professor dies.
