I've seen people say that Weird Route is "Two Queer kids being forced into a Hetero-normative relationship". which is a reverse of Freddy and Jesse, with Jesse being in the closet and Freddy representing his gayness.
Granted that wasn't the intention in the script, purely just a happy accident.

It pisses me off how Toby doesn't talk much about his viewpoints because I have no clue what his actual intentions are with the story.
