sorta odd question but wondering if its possible.
if i pirated a game i owned on steam, ideally the same version ripped from steam that it would be trying to install anyway, put that into the correct steamapps/common folder. would steam detect it as the game i own installed?
maybe at that point at least i could verify game files?

i have a game i own on steam that simply will not download. ive tried everything and im not here to troubleshoot that anymore.

Probably not. Did you clear your cache?

>i have a game i own on steam that simply will not download.
if its solely that game that wont download then get in touch with steam support or browse the game's forums to see if anyone else has the same issue. you could also try going into the steam dir and delete any partial downloads, clearing cache, etc. following the steps you can find on the Internet for others having this problem.

Theoretically, yes.
But then it'd try to update the game and fail because you can't download it and you'd be right there once again.

i made this thread last night when trying to troubleshoot the corrupt download if youre curious. that was the first of a laundry list of things i tried. its not my drive like some moron kept implying. i tried 3 different drives and it stalls suddenly at 149.3mb downloaded on each. nothing to do with it writing to disk.

ive tried literally everything i can think of and since that thread i even tried reinstalling steam with the problem persisting.
>>723941982
someone in thread linked confirmed for me that it was downloading for them. unless they photoshopped that screenshot *shrug* i doubt someone would go to that level of trolling. but yes i did look for people having the same problem with this game specifically.

but really ive given up and im over not playing this game until i get a new PC or something its w/e
last ditch effort i have a portable HDD that im going to probably just take to the library and install it on that there and take it home then move the install folder. i believe that should work if for some reason it truly is my rig.

have you at least tried clearing cache and deleting any partial downloads? i don't think it'll help but you also try switching download region. also make sure it's not something simple like not enough drive space or maybe you accidentally made the download folder read only. you could also try creating a new game folder either on your current drive or another drive and pointing steam to that.

I just tested it with XCOM 2 (I own the game on steam but pirate it because the steam version has spyware). The answer is no. It doesn't show up in the library. Just refund your purchase and get the game from GOG. Good Old Games literally makes sure your game will work on modern hardware.

i linked the thread because it says what i tried

cleared cache (via steam and manually), changed download region (through steam and artificially with a VPN), limiting download speed, disabled firewall/antivirus, repaired libraries (completely removed and recreated), and of course completely uninstalling then reinstalling steam
probably a thing or two i tried in that thread i didnt list here.

i easily know more about computers and IT than the average shlub and maybe even the average 4chan user but im still at a complete loss but yeah like i said im not trying to troubleshoot this shit anymore. my PC simply has gremlins *shrug*

im going to try pirating a steam version and see what happens, couldnt hurt i guess

i appreciate the response but ive owned this game for well over a decade and played it plenty on other hardware. if i wanted the GOG route or simply pirating it i would do that but im an autist that loves his achievements

probably still gonna try it myself for shits n giggles

lol you mad
i havent bought a single AAA game since 2010. how about you? you have literally zero room to talk if you have given any AAA devs money since like GTA V

microtransactions and overpriced consoles with zero exclusives are whats killing gaming and have been for over a decade. not achievement hunting autists. achievements could disappear from gaming altogether tomorrow and i doubt that many people would be upset. literally "ree stop liking things i dont like" logic

360 is a retro console now. achievements are not new or "killing" anything. settle down, unc
Anonymous No.723945664 [Report] >>723945876
No because you wouldn't have a valid license and even though you have the data Valve checks to see if your license is valid while launching.

You can download the clean Steam files from cs.rin.ru and see if that works
Anonymous No.723945779 [Report] >>723945876

Just put the files in there excluding the exe and cracks then verify files

>if i pirated a game i owned on steam
So you own the game on Steam already? Yes it will work, that's how I put most of my games on Steam Deck, I put the gamefiles to my SD card on my computer and then stick that bad boy to my Deck.

thats why i finished closing with "maybe at that point at least i could verify game files?"
>>723945735
ill give it a look since the only torrents for it i can find with seeders are the GOG version
>>723945779
this sounds probable if i can only find a good version.
reckon a GOG version may work?
>>723945842
yes but i imagine youre doing this with your files you downloaded on your PC from steam...?

I don’t know, if the file layout is the same then maybe

Just pirate the fucking game like an adult and add it as a non-steam game, holy shit.

Steam files are encrypted until you can verify the game.
