These skins went from a couple of hundred bucks to 50k. You could only get them trough unboxing them or buying them from other players
There were players that treated these as investments and had hundreds of thousands if not millions of these things stashed in their player inventories

now with the latest update, valve added an option to upgrade lower grade skins into knives and gloves and still be tradeable
This skyrocketed the red skins (one grade lower than gold) because everyone started buying them to make knives, and it tanked the prices of knives into oblivion.
What was worth 50k yesterday is now maybe 200 bucks, if that.
A guy who stashed low level skins for years can now upgrade 0.02 cent skins into knives
