Left one is still not ideal. Most of the complexity on the left side isn't used. Physical skills? Only for combat. No personal interactions in dialogues (Planescape: Torment had that). Finance? Outside of lowering prices (pretty useless if you explore) can be used 2-3 times.
Not every skill has systemic impact. Ideally, when designing the game each skill should have roughly the same density of usage, as we pay the same to develop it. It is a flaw of many rpg systems. Often, it's an illusion of choice.

This was my fear literally, when i saw you guys suggestion not to buy the game in the last thread, but even here iam more disgusted to see what it really offers cursed IP i say CURSED
If you didnt see this coming miles away I dont know what to tell you. This game was always doomed. Should have just made an immersive sim and called it something else
>>723964134
Yes and no. Your clan choice dictates melee feel. (Different clans have different melee attacks with different range and speed), and you have clan passives that aren't learnable.
>>723959148 (OP)
You wont have interesting systems because games are being developed by jaded 40yo, encrusted in the industry, low key hating it, and wishing to rediscover the magic of games but, in a way that is not demanding you know? because they are tired, and old, and busy and they dont want to read and all of that. And these loosers are the ones making your games.

i miss when a crowd of men with glasses and poor hair looked like nerds, not someone you'd be incredibly hesitant to leave your children with. even ingen shirt guy has a phenotype that gets my hackles raised

translation: >it's not an RPG unless every single stat has a special high-level option in every single conversation
response:
fuck off, retard
>>723962405 >Left one is still not ideal. Most of the complexity on the left side isn't used. Physical skills? Only for combat.
You have never played the game
Physical skills let you access new paths of the level and id say not being able to win some fights is an impact
>>723965318
Exploration? Potence isn't just about punching, with few dots you should be able to jump into high windows or onto the rooftops. Celerity for extreme parkour. Fortitude for rushing through (brief) moments of sunlight or other environmental hazards.
>>723966573
damn if only they had done that with the sequel instead of pushing out garbage and complaining the first game didn't do shit that was borderline impossible at the time >seamlessly jump into a building interior through a window! >in a game where every door is a loading screen to a new cell
>>723966573
Cool ideas, Ranjeet. Can you do any of them in the sequel after 20 years of technological advancement? >no...
Can you at least do what you could do in the first game, like hacking, lockpicking, dancing, seducing, managing humanity... >n-n-n-no...
Ahhhhhh jeez you're gonna lose your job...
>>723968576
so vtmb1 should have ALSO had a 'self worth' stat that your physical strength increases?
are you even aware of the context of the argument, like, at all?
>>723969198
but if you read the thread, vtmb2 is basically the same as vtmb1 because your physical ability doesn't translate to a better health insurance rate in vtmb1. so the stat might as well not exist.
>>723962405
People disagree with you because they (rightfully) view Bloodlines 2 as the worse game, but your argument is correct in a vaccum.
The system driven approach of boomer rpgs creates an illusion of choice and forces you to go online to look up viable builds, rather engage with the game system by yourself
>>723969636
read the thread. someone is arguing that your physical stat should be for more tham just combat ability because people IRL don't go to the gym just to get stronger or look better.
so clearly the anti-vtmb1, pro-vtmb2 shill thinks we should get less chance of arthritis, better insurance premiums, and feel less tired in the morning in vtmb1 or else the physical stat is pointless and it all should be replaced with a choiceless shitty system
all to somehow make vtmb2 look better by comparison
>>723969543 >forces you to go online to look up viable builds
if you are only capable of playing the game once without using multiple saves, maybe. but it's meant to be replayed and nothing is stopping you from saving before spending stat points and testing them out.
>>723969973
it does. you're a female or a broken nu-human if you don't actively crave the oppportunity to stack heavy materials and make something of them.
>check out "classic" WRPG >gameplay is god awful >"""important dialogue choices""" and writing impressive to people who don't read and is carried hard by decent or "so bad its heckin good!" voice acting.
>>723965724 >You wont have interesting systems because games are being played by jaded 40yo, encrusted in the industry, low key hating it, and wishing to rediscover the magic of games but, in a way that is not demanding you know? because they are tired, and old, and busy and they dont want to read and all of that.
Gotta admit, if I see a system like the one on the left I immediately nope out. I don't have time to look up builds and metagame just to be able to play it. None of that shit means anything to me. I'm not going to do research in order to play a game when my backlog has 1,000 others on it that won't waste my time learning how to play them. Go play d&d if you want shit like that.
>>723971735
so a game about player choice is the first thing you look at and critique?
Do you go into gran turismo threads to say that you aren't interested in car autism and would prefer to launch a missile at the person in front of you?
>>723971735 >I guess I am more story focused and looking for a currated experience
then play literally any AAA trash and leave our classics alone. a sequel being railroaded trash won't affect you but it affects us.
>>723971629
nuwrpgs are downstream from and are the logical conclusion of these "classic" wrpgs millennials glaze. everything wrong with modern rpgs is seeded in garbage like vtmb, morrowind, gothic, deus ex etc.
>>723971913
For me, player choice is when I can actually play the game and have viable builds with the information available ingame.
Having to go online and follow the guide for optimal builds (that are required to progress) is no player choice in my opinion.
>>723972009
I am not defending Bloodlines 2, I am just talking about system driven RPGs in general
>>723967279 >Can you at least do what you could do in the first game, like hacking, lockpicking, dancing, seducing, managing humanity... >>n-n-n-no...
Its funny how a bunch of nobody's with the budget of a toothpaste commercial made a 200x better game
