>first game is the story of a normal guy who breaks when his brother gets whacked by junkies and proceeds to go full Punisher mode, becoming the most feared motherfucker in the city after singlehandedly killing hundreds of criminals & random ghetto trash while taking down several gangs, only to end it with "yeah, I regret nothing because they all deserved it, in fact I might as well keep going"
>sequel is a classic story of two men forming a brotherly bond as they take down an entire conspiracy (and kill hundreds)
>developer is a healthy straight slavic chad passionate about guns and lifting
>tons of replay value thanks to well-designed AI that keeps gameplay dynamic, various ways to approach the levels and many loadout choices
>stealth that mogs AAA games just for the fact that enemies don't forget your existence but stay alert when they see you, then they walk around and warn other enemies spreading the alert state in an organic way instead of it being a "global" trigger or set to an area like in AAA games
>amazing music
>great gunplay and guns that actually sound loud & weighty
>great balance of stealth and action
Literally the perfect IP

Certainly not the most recent gacha slop.

Oh, started the first one recently.
Is there any reason to do no kill runs except overall satisfaction?
Heard endings differ in 2, but no info about the first one.

no the story in 2 sucked balls. the whole "muh daddy is kidnapped" is also such a boring and cliched call to action. it would be really cool if the game instead focused on Sean's descent into being a bloodthirsty vengeful killer. they way they brought Steve into the story also feels very unnatural like why the fuck would this coldblooded assassin be so eager to work with some random guy just because his dad was killed? they should have had Steve monitor your actions in a few missions and if you don't kill innocents then have Steve join you. anyway I'm mad about this game because I really liked the gameplay but had to ignore the story because of how bad it was

I don't think you really played the game because the choices and trust system are exactly that.
If Sean doesn't get Steve to trust him he either just walks away at the end of the game or straight up kills Sean
The worst ending also puts Sean in a quite hopeless situation with his dad and Steve dead, cops closing in and blood of countless innocents on his hands
Steve isn't a coldblooded assasin, he is a vigilante and is still willing to help Sean considering he unintentionally screwed him over, but is very cautious intil Sean gets his trust
The story is okay
Also it leans heavily on Sean's dad because the game is a tribute to the developer's dead father

definitely one of my favorite indie games
up there with
HM2
katana zero
Dead bolt
door kickers
and mark of the ninja

but why would Steve trust him enough to work with him in the first place? that's my point. I think the justification is that you spared the first guy you were sent to kill (total bs that you couldn't just say fuck it and kill him anyway btw) but it feels do contrived like that's enough for this cold-blooded discerning vigilante to like you and work with you?

also both protagonists are so one dimensional. it's just not very compelling. I had to shut my brain off and just focus on the gameplay.

What are some other mechanically rich games, or games where the systems just work well and can be used reliably?

He does not like Sean right away, only is willing to stick around to see if his "hitman with a conscience" story is actually real
Again, he only actually becomes Sean's friend if he proves his worth to him, otherwise he leaves him, kills him or fucking dies himself

he doesn't like him straight away but decides to work with him anyway which is what I have an issue with. shouldn't it be the other way around where he won't work with you until he likes you?

At the end Sean asks Steve that exact question and Steve explains why. You obviously weren't paying attention.

I wouldn't really call gunpoint a stealth game, it's a puzzle game with stealth elements

and unity is like the first AC that lets you crouch walk, doesn't mean it's stealth though, especially when the indoor sections are super cramped and the outdoor sections are just run of the mill asscreed

>unity is like the first AC that lets you crouch walk, doesn't mean it's stealth though

You can have a good time with Unity if you do side missions that are at a higher level. You can’t fight them head on,
but you can one shot enemies and make use of all your assassin tools to take them out one by one.

Yes, I know, I played Unity and the side content is just the average asscreed shit. The only side content that resembled stealth were the coop missions, which were actually kinda cool. I say this as someone who generally enjoys stealth, even in non stealth games.

Well, that list was short. Because that's all I know about so far. There's not many games that have the depth that I look for. And it's hard to call Gloomwood a stealth game with a straight face, subjective I suppose. But I'll post what I know.

Too janky to be good, not worth playing:

Just a disclaimer I'm not calling any of them 'mechanically' rich. I think only intravenous classifies for that. Most of them are dumbed down. But then again to call something like Dishonoured mechanically rich is also misleading since it's not even stealth. So I don't think bending the rules was uncalled for.

As far as I'm concerned the only stealth that matters is shadow intensity and sound based systems. But not many of those actually exist. Indie developers were always hopeless at getting that mechanic to work well so most of them being the lazy people that they are: stuck to the story that it was bad game design.

People that enjoy stealth games are just cowards who don't have fast enough reaction times to play real action games. There's no skill involved shooting perfectly silent weapons from bushes. You really feel badass hiding in a closet?

Just admit you can't aim in a video game to save your life. The skill you are talking about always boils down to "do I shoot this guy in the back of the head now, or ignore him and crawl through this conveniently placed human sized air vent". But I understand why that might seem like it requires a lot of thinking for a stealth game fan.
