It's a sequel that stands on its own legs through its elite show don't tell storytelling.
Gameplay is great, all 3 main masks are excellent, Termina is extremely charming, song of healing, story is minimalist but very effective.
>Why do so many fans consider it superior to Ocarina of Time?
Because Ocarina of Time is the game everybody ripped off, and Majora's Mask is the game nobody ripped off. So if you're a younger person who didn't grow up with these games, MM is simply a more unique experience.

What does it matter.
Everyone can agree Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are both universally loved, and are of the finest games ever made.
And people will bitch about MM's time constraints, but the general consensus stands.

I would say it's different, but both experiences are complementary.
Oot is more grandiose, MM is more laid back and self centered but still tells a relevant story.
Both games have dungeons that make them worthy of being played for anyone :
OOT: Forest, Water, Spirit
MM: Snowpeak, motherfucking Stone Tower Temple

I do because it's like Ocarina but just more and with certain QoL improvements over Ocarina for things like the center field hub and skulltulas.
I'm actually a big fan of so-called "asset flip" games because they often meaningfully expand on mechanics or more directly address issues in the earlier game. Meanwhile, the "real" sequels make the same mistakes as the earlier game but in a new engine. Just compare MM transformation masks to the TP wolf form.
