Doomguy had a pretty detailed backstory.
Alcoholic marine who got demoted after assaulting an officer, was left behind during the Phobos operation being a mere pilot at that point, which ultimately saved his arse.

Then he died, went to hell, drag himself out of hell, and saved the day. But got massive PTSD, because death and demons kinda sucks, but was still sent to clear up yet another outbreak in D64.

Still better lore than whatever the fuck 3 did

I don't know, The Dark Ages was pretty meh, I played it and when I was done with it, I was done with it. When I finished Eternal I immediately replayed it again and I have played through Eternal like 6-7 times total now. I don't think I'll ever be replaying The Dark Ages, I don't even think I'm gonna bother with the DLC.
