I like the gunplay here more than in roboquest.
scroll (passive buff) sharing in coop lets players hyperspecialize (or branch out) their character builds however they want, not how levelup rng wants.

It works like this. The owl has an "Astrohouse" that is a slot machine. Every time you use his card throw (Q), it rolls one of the slots. The slots have varying qualities (cursed, normal, rare, legendary). Matching three of the same slot gives you more damage to your main skill (E). If you haven't matched, you do normal damage. The trick is that you can mess with the slot odds by picking up scrolls and can eventually get a near-100% legendary chance.

Using the main skill (and some other conditions based on ascension) clears the slots. The card throw build typically wants to get three legendaries and hold them the entire game.

Ignore all that shit, just stack as much scroll as you can on owl. More scrolls = more damage. Your inputs have virtually no effect on the outcome past the 10 minutes mark. Only scrolls amount and rarity matter.

For me she started feeling OP once I figured out her Flame Talisman ascension. Before you could get like 99% damage reduction with it. Now you get free shields as long as you keep applying burns.

It's not easy unless you roll a few optimal scrolls early. I find it very easy to lose if RNG isn't kind. But I'm not a sweatlord either. I only have like 60 hours in this game so far.
Honestly, I'm just glad it's a real game and it's getting real content in the form of new characters and guns, and it's not some gacha trash where you gamble for PNG's. Chinaslop gets way worse than Gunfire.

I never played online, it's fine. Can be a slog if you get no movement buffs, which is more than a fair chance. I'd recommend Robo Quest or Nightmare Reaper more, overall, unless you have a particular affection for the art style or a chance of a completely unhinged build at the end.
