He got old and his close friends moved on. The fact that was specifically made for a small group of friends was what made it appeal to zoomers. Like "hey! one day your mario oc would be in a video!"

I never really got the appeal of this or the plushie shit. Although they do seem fun to make rather than actually watch.

A lot of people point to 2017 but I'll go one step further and say 2014, which is when he REALLY started to move away from text-based comedy and instead began using voice clips and memes more frequently. SMG4 was always really hit and miss, but at least a lot of the text was his own material.
