PvZ2 has a decent base but they managed it like greedy retards. PvZ3 just sucked. Heroes was relatively niche, I never played it but I heard they fucked it up too. Garden warfare (multiplayer TPS) was good and GW2 was great but Battle for Neighborville killed the TPS PvZ games, at least for now.
There are a bunch of official PvZ, some based in the first 2 games and others that are their own standalone thing over there. If you want more traditional PvZ that's actually good just check mods for PvZ1 and 2, nothing much beyond that

PvZ Fusion is a mod of the first game that introduces a cool fusion gimmick to the plants and it's pretty fun.
PvZ2 vanilla is for mobile only and riddled with micro transactions and ads. Not worth your time
PvZ2 Gardenless and Reflourished are mods for PvZ2 that remove all that bullshit and bring them to PC and are well worth your time. Check them out, they're as good as the first game and better in some aspects imo.
PvZ3 is a mess. It came out in 2019, was so bad they pulled it and remade it. Came out again, was still bad, had to pull it again and remake it. And so on and so on. That's how it's been for the past 6 years and it's a disgrace.

Also there's the third person shooter Garden Warfare games that are just as stupid and fun as they sound.

Right now, there's a bug in co-op where the person playing with a mouse can get their seed/zombie packets permanently soft-banned for the duration of the PvP battle/story mode level. There's no issue with the player on controller, however.

The third one is generally awful, but the style of the plants leaves me conflicted. I hate it for PvZ, but it looks like it would go well with a different setting. It looks like 3 different people did the kid (why is there a kid?), the plants, an the rest of the scene, since the art styles are all over the place.

I feel like playing devil's advocate for once.

As underwhelming as the music and atmosphere are for the Zomboss fights in PvZ2, especially when compared to the original in PvZ1, they're mechanically more engaging.
He summons Zombies far more often, instead of fucking off entirely he just moves to a different lane his lane clearing attack is faster and affects two lanes and can only be stopped by using the main gimmick of the game and his unavoidable attacks are a lot fairer than they are in PvZ1.
Other shit that I can't confidently say is objectively good would be Zomboss himself being voiced and the size of the mech not making me wonder how he doesn't destroy the house entirely just by standing on top of it.

Bullshit, PvZ2 Zomboss is WAY more RNG than PvZ1 Zomboss
The reason PvZ1 Zomboss is better is because you will almost always die to your skill. You have enough plants to deal with his specific attacks and can practically always cover every lane well
Compare this to PvZ2 Zomboss where even in Egypt he can just spam three Gargs in a single lane with the game giving you Wallnuts and Potato Mines over and over
This ends up making PvZ2 Zomboss very reliant on plant food spam which is so much less entertaining. Just "hope you get good RNG and a lot of plant food and try to spam as much as possible at the Zombot when there aren't seven Bucketheads and four Gargs you have to deal in in three lanes at the same time!"

So you should play the previous Bloons games to play Bloons 6? You should play all the previous Mario games before playing World, or NSMB? By the end of Egypt I'd argue you're facing Roof-tier levels at points and by Wild West it's way beyond most of PvZ1.
