Something I don't understand about modern handheld gaming is who tf has the balls to take these flimsy expensive things out into public?

Still buying a Switch 2

in public? no one. they're for sitting on the couch and playing while you play shitty TV shows on your TV to listen to as background noise.

I don't even see children using them in public. It's usually dygenic or fat milleniams who just stopped caring.

Me. Why do you give a fuck what people think in public? My biggest concern is some nog on a jog who might try to take it, forcing me to gun him down in justified self-defense and having to deal with cops after.

At most it's on a Plane/hotel room or in the passenger seat of a car. People aren't playing them on a Park bench or on the subway.

OP here. I own a switch 2. I just can't imagine ever taking it outside. I might take it to my parent's house or something but that's about it.

Anonymous No.724034310 [Report]
I don't think you have to take them out in public.
The only really good situation to use a Switch outside home is either you're on a long travel by bus (the ones where you sleep there), traveling by plane or maybe even taking it to work.

At least in my case, the Switch being "handheld" has just made it easier when I want to take it to a friend's home to play there or if I want to play on bed.

I take my Rog Ally X on airplanes.
Otherwise my Switch is hooked up to my TV and I bring it into bed if I am sick. I'd bring it on a plane too but the last time I bought a new Switch game was ZA and I've played it at home, before that is was probably 13 Sentinels years ago

Thinking back, if my Game Boy Color wasn't at home at with me, it was either on trips (in a car with my parents) or sometimes at a friend's house. Neither of which happen anymore. Airplanes too but I can count on one hand how many times I've flown in the last ten years.

Kids that brought their Game Boy to school or other public places got theirs lost or stolen.

DS's are fine, or they used to be before they became trendy. you could take one anywhere and nobody would touch it because it gets them basically nothing back when sold.
"handheld" gaming is basically just couch gaming now

They're for cafeterias, hotels, travel and such. Even nintendo understands that the "commute" market is dominated by the smartphone, so any handheld has to target long term use over quick plug and play portability

Even there, people are hardly going to give a fuck unless there are several things about your appearance that set them off, such as being an ugly-looking goblin who didn't wash himself for two weeks.

"Handheld" and "Portable" are different things.
Handheld implies it's pocketable since it "fits on your hand" while Portable implies it's, well, just portable.
Anything larger than a smart phone / Vita is not a "handheld" but "Portable" and nobody takes "Portable" things out of their home unless it's a laptop.
