The first books written by a former KGB officer named Anatoly Golitstyn in 1984 that described in general terms about how the Warsaw pact would fake its own collapse, before it happened. He brilliantly describes how the communists controlled the democracy movements in Europe in his book New Lies for Old, even said the Berlin Wall would fall before it happened.

Golitsyn's works have been deemed a conspiracy theory in the eyes of most historians. However there are other books vindicating him regarding his warnings about Mikhail Gorbachev. An American researcher wrote two books in 2015 finding supporting evidence of his information from his own research. Examining Russia through the 80s, 90s to the current regime of Putin. Among some of Golitsyns claims like the Tito-Stalin split was a manufactured event, and the Sino-soviet split too.
