NGfans themselves were simply too autistic about it, not without reason of course, plenty of red flags, some came true some not but even amidst action game autism NGfags are very specific about their taste, to the point that many like only 1 game in the franchise, including remasters/remakes of those same games, so without a collective hype from the enthusiasts the cattle, i mean casuals, just didnt go along with the "hype"
Its not a bad game, it even has the qualities to become a cult-classic, but at least right now this game was fated to be a financial failure from possibly day1.

I would usually buy this game. But it is so late in the year and I already capped at video game purchases in september. I spent 500 dollars already and I dont plan to spend anymore. The only thing I plan to buy is the new vampire survivor dlc which is likely going to be 5 dollars at max if it even costs anything. 70 dollars is out of my price range.

Ninja Gaiden was always a niche series, but even moreso part of the problem, Platinum Games lost all of their good rep. Kamiya is gone, Bayo 3 sucked ass, Babylon's Fall was an embarrassment. I simply don't care about what the have to offer.

Automata is carried entirely by character design and taro unashamedly making them put in fuck-me strut walk and run cycles for 2b and commander + the smoke screen of "ackthiually it's deep bro trust me"

Automata's combat was okay, not great but okay. it lacked depth, almost like MGR. both games would've benefitted greatly from more viable moves but MGR was still more fun to play combat wise.
Automata's movement is fun though. I also disagree that it's carried by char designs. While they are great, that wasn't the reason i loved that game. I didn't even think the main story was that great and the level based damage scaling was pretty bad. Automata is still one of the coolest games ever made at the end of the day though even with its flaws.

Cool, thanks. I want to murder people who put in rarity drop systems in single player games with a story emphasis. At least MGR has the option to ultrabuff parry on revengeance. I also think it's closer to a very good action game if you could use non sword-attacks more and stagger/windows were worked on a bit, but automata doesn't have anything close to the Sam or Armstrong fights even with the human-sized fights like Eve, 9s, etc.
The story isn't great but it has strong beats like the tower erecting and these give lasting memory (the rest gets washed in time) and "you just don't get it" potential to gain word of mouth. I personally wanted every playable character formatted out of existence by the end.
