The first game of every new IP Pirhana Bytes created was pretty much Gothic 2, but they're gone now, so that was probably it.
If you haven't yet, try Risen 1 and Elex 1.

I downloaded the demo 2 days ago and haven't started it yet.
Yeah, like you said, it looks like a very janky UE slop. But the trailer showed you can make your own weapons by customizing each part, and you can own a house, and I'm a sucker for all kinds of customization options like that.

This is what people actually want.
I don't want arrows pointing me towards the next quest location, or painted fucking ladders.
I don't want a HUD giving me every single detail of what's close to me, or what fucking button I need to press to execute a special combo.
I personally became a big fan of no enemy respawns, which helps with the immersion.
Interconnected worlds are the best.
Fast travel should be reserved for when you've completed 70 to 80% of the game.
